Fifth Practice Session of Spring Held Today
Bloomington, Ind. -- The Indiana University football team practiced today for the fifth time this spring at the football practice fields adjacent to the Mellencamp Pavilion. The practice began at 4:00 p.m. and ended at approximately 6:15. Senior All-America candidate Adewale Ogunleye did not practice because of a sprained ankle he sustained during last Friday's scrimmage. Senior center Chad Miller also did not practice because of a death in the family. Senior tackle Craig Robeen was also at a funeral.
Cam Cameron quotes following today's practice:
On viewing the films of the first week of practice: "I like some of the things I saw on the offensive line from an offensive standpoint. I think (Craig) Robeen and (Pita) Elisara have played well. I think Chad Miller has been disappointed in the way that he has played. That's what he told me and he is probably right. I thought the tackles played well and our tight ends are doing some good things. Those are probably the highlights on offense. The other guys are getting better. I told the receivers that they have improved as much (as any other positon) and they made another step today. Running backs, we are still feeling our way there a little bit. Jason Spear has impressed me. He's going to pick up right where Chris Gall left off and the fact that De'Wayne Hogan can spell him every now and then will only help. We've got to have our receivers continuing to improve. Defensively, Adewale is expected to be back Wednesday. Right now we are without (Jason) Czap, Wally, and Damian Gregory so we're getting a good look at some of the young guys."
On redshirt freshman defensive tackle Jamil Frink: "He is going to be really good one day. I mean really good. And it may be down the road but he, I think is going to be a heckuva football player."
On moving linebacker Joslin Goodman: "We made a move today that I think is going to help us. We moved Joslin Goodman from our inside linebacker to our weakside linebacker which I think is more suited for him. He does enough good things that we're going to move him a little closer to the line of scrimmage. I think that's going to be good. Justin Smith and Devin Schaffer are getting better every day."
On the secondary: "We really didn't test our secondary very much in the passing game (last week). But those guys are improving. Brandon Rodgers improves every snap. Mike McGrath gets better every snap and so do O.J. Spencer and Maurice Tucker. I think Sharrod Wallace has made the most improvement back there."
On overall improvement: "I think everyone we play is going to be better. But, it's encouraging to look out there and know you are better. For example, today. We were better today than we were last week."
The Indiana football team will practice again on Wednesday and Friday. On Saturday, the team will scrimmage on the football practice fields at approximately 11:00 a.m. Also, the Second Annual Women's Football Clinic will be held this Thursday at the Memorial Stadium Football Complex.
