MEN'S GOLF LOOKING FOR BETTER PERFORMANCE AT MARSHALL
Tournament Data: The Indiana University men's golf team will be in Huntington, West Virginia to compete in the Marshall Invitational Golf Tournament at Guyan Golf and Country Club Friday and Saturday, April 9 and 10. The format will be 36 holes to be played on Friday with a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. On Saturday, the final 18 holes will be played with teams teeing off the first and tenth tees, beginning at 7:30 a.m.
The Teams: (20) Akron, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Kent, Kentucky, Louisville, Marshall, Miami (Ohio), Michigan, Michigan State, Murray State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ohio, Purdue, Toledo, Wisconsin
The Hoosiers: Last week IU traveled to Lexington, Kentucky to participate in the Johnny Owens Invitational. The Hoosiers finished in eighth place with a three-round score of 904 (302-302-300).
IU was led by sophomore Steve Wheatcroft, who finished tied for 13th with a total of four-over-par 220 (72-72-74).
Coach Mike Mayer said he is still looking for someone on his team to step forward and become the team leader, but is optimistic that his team is ready to play. "We had our best qualifying results of the year this past Sunday," he said. "Hopefully that will carry over to Marshall."
Mayer also said that Marshall will probably have the best field of the year and the team knows the importance of playing well. "This is a big weekend for us as far as NCAA points are concerned," he said. "Our statistics look good, except for putting and chipping, and we have really concentrated on those areas this week in practice."
