Simone breaks single-season steal mark
East Lansing, Mich.--The Indiana Women's Water Polo team routed Purdue 14-1 during the opening day of the Big Ten Women's Water Polo Tournament.
Sophomore driver Deb Simone scored twice, dished out three assists and had a steal as five Indiana players scored two goals a piece. With her 100th steal of the season, Simone broke the IU single-season steal mark of 99 set last year by Kara Fellerhoff.
Sheri Fagley, Kara Fellerhoff, Kristin Carpenter and Molly Fonner were the other Hoosiers with two goals tonight. IU is 16-1 over the last two years when Carpenter scores two or more goals and Fonner notched her sixth multiple goal game of the year.
Indiana (14-12) also received the first goals of the year from Suzanne Rose and Erin Rice as nine different Hoosiers found the back of the net.
In tomorrow's action, the second-seeded Hoosiers take on sixth-seeded Illinois at 12:20 p.m (EDT) and third-seeded Michigan State at 3:35 p.m.(EDT). If the Hoosiers win their bracket, they will play at 9:05 p.m.(EDT) against the second place team in Bracket A. If Indiana takes second, it will play at 8:05 p.m.(EDT), against the Bracket A winner.
