1999-2000 RECRUITS
Here's a look at the four players who have signed National Letters of Intent to play at Indiana this fall.
Tom Coverdale
G, 6-2, 185, Fr. Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville H.S./New Hampton Prep
Prep School: Averaged 21 pts, 7 assists and 4 steals last year at New Hampton. . .named to several all-tourney teams including the National Prep Invitational. . . Honor Roll student at New Hampton and was named co captain of the team.
High School: Averaged 25 ppg, 7 apg and was named Mr. Basketball in Indiana. . .known as a clutch shooter, he won several games with last second shots. . .led Noblesville to a top 10 ranking in Class 4A throughout the season.
George Leach
C, 6'11, 220, Charlotte, NC/Olympic
High School: Led team to conference tournament title. . .team was 20-8 and ranked 15th by the Charlotte Observer. . .averaged 17 ppg, 12 rbg and 9 bpg. . .possesses a good jumper and is a solid rebounder. . . averaged 10 points, 10 rebounds and 5.6 blocks per game as a junior. . .left-handed. . . chose Indiana over Maryland, South Carolina and Florida State. . .ranked among the Top 100 players in the nation by many recruiting services.
Kei Madison
F, 6'8, 205, Columbiana, Al./Shelby County HS/New Hampton Prep
Prep School: Averaged 16 ppg, 10 rbg, 3 bpg at New Hampton.
High School: Averaged 21 ppg and 18 rpg as a senior. . .averaged just 6 ppg and 11 rpg as a junior but due to a late growth spurt, the loss of two scoring guards, and the go ahead by his coach to play more away from the basket he was able to dramatically increase his output. . .has long arms and quick leaping ability. . .also has a good shot and is a good ball handler which enables him to drive to the hole well for a big man.
Jeffrey Newton
F, 6'9, 215, Atlanta, GA/Mays
High School: Honorable Mention AAAA all-state selection. . .named to the Atlanta Journal Consititution Metro Atlanta's team of the year. . .selected by the newspaper as one of the top 10 recruits in Georgia last year. . .Helped guide team to first state tourney in a number of years as a senior as he averaged 22 ppg, 9 rbg, 3 bpg. . .as a junior he averaged 19 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks per game. . .he is a good rebounder who also has a reliable mid range shot. . .shoots well from the field and made 85% from the free throw line. . .academically qualified with 1010 SAT score. . .selected Indiana over South Florida, and Georgia Said to be fundamentally sound player. . . ranked among the Top 100 players in the nation by many recruiting services
