MEN'S GOLF IN 10TH AT BIG TENS
Minneapolis, Minn. -- The Indiana men's golf team is in 10th place after the first day of the Big Ten Men's Golf Championships at the University of Minnesota/Les Bolstad Golf Course.
The Hoosiers shot a two-round total of 593 Friday. Northwestern University holds a shy one-shot lead with a team score of 565. Minnesota is in second place with a total of 566 and is 10-strokes ahead of third-place Michigan State and Iowa.
"We just didn't play very well today," head coach Mike Mayer said. "We didn't have anyone shoot a low number. Brent Landry is in position to have a good tournament but he will have to play well on Saturday. I hope we can play a little catch up Saturday."
Landry was the top Indiana finisher as he is in a tie for 17th at 2-over par 144. Corey Sullivan is in 24th place, at 146, while Steve Wheatcroft and Rich Thomas are in a tie for 43rd and Jon Barry is in a tie for 43rd at 152.
Defending NCAA Champion James McLean is in third place with a 138, one stroke behind Larry Nuger of Illinois and Matt Stutzman of Iowa. McLean shot a 72 in the first round and fired back the low score of the day, 66, in the second round.
Eighteen holes will be played Saturday and Sunday to round out the tournament.
