Bloomington, Ind. -- Indiana University Athletic Director Clarence Doninger today announced that the IU football program has been recognized by the American Football Coaches Association for its academic achievement. Indiana University was one of 26 NCAA Division I-A members who received such recognition for tallying graduation rates of 70 percent or better.
"The primary objective of the Indiana University athletic department is to graduate its student-athletes," said Doninger. "I couldn't be more pleased that the football program has taken this mission seriously. This award recognizes, first and foremost, the student-athlete. It is also a compliment to both the football and academic advising staffs."
The awards will be presented at the AFCA Kickoff Luncheon during the Association's 2000 convention in Anaheim, California.
