NEWCOMERS PARTICIPATE IN FIRST PRACTICE

Bloomington, Ind. -- Head coach Cam Cameron today conducted the first practice of the 1999 season as he and his staff welcomed 27 newcomers (including four invited walk-ons) to the IU campus. (A newcomer roster will be posted on Wednesday with updated heights and weights). The newcomers practiced from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. and will also participate in drills from 4:30-6:30 p.m. today. The newcomers will follow the same practice schedule on Wednesday. On Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Indiana's returning players will join the newcomers for the first full-squad practice. Practices are open to the public.
"It was certainly good to get these guys on the field," said Cameron. "If nothing else, this group of young guys really enjoys playing football. It is a class heavy in the skill positions and I think that helped the tempo of the practice. We'll just have to work at maintaining a good pace."
