Bloomington, Ind. -- The Indiana football team held one practice today from 1:30-3:45 p.m. on the practice fields adjacent to the Mellencamp Pavilion. The 30-period practice in half pads, which was conducted in front of approximately 75 fans, consisted of individual drills, 7-on-7 periods, a blitz period, special teams work, and an 11-on-11 period. The team will practice three times on Monday and Tuesday before heading to an off-campus training camp in Marshall, Indiana, on Tuesday evening. Monday's first practice will begin at 8:30 a.m.
Injury List: The following players missed today's practice -
Sophomore tight end Craig Osika - suffered an ankle injury during Saturday's afternoon practice. Day-to-day.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Tommy Jones - attending funeral of friend who was killed in an automobile accident. Is expected to arrive back in Bloomington on Sunday evening.
Redshirt freshman linebacker Donnie Buck - ear injury. May miss three weeks.
Selected Cam Cameron quotes:
On practice in general: "It was a crisp practice. We got started a little slow, I thought, but by the end of practice, when we went 11-on-11, I thought we were practicing the way we want to practice."
On playing freshmen in the secondary: "There is some young talent back there and that is obvious. Whether or not they'll be able to hang in there for the next three weeks we are going to have to find out. You'd prefer not to play freshmen but if those veteran guys don't get in better shape and come on any faster then they're going to have to compete with those guys and they created that situation."
On the few guys who had yet to pass the mile and one-half run test: "Three-fourths (of the guys who did not pass it on Friday) have now passed the test. I have a tough time understanding how you can't pass it on Friday and now can pass it one or two days later. I mean what the heck. But, that's alright. We'll get those guys up to speed with everyone else."
On future practice schedules: "We'll go three-a-days from now one with a one-a-day sprinkled in there now and then. We'll go three tomorrow, three Tuesday, three Wednesday, and then one Thursday and three Friday."
On changes of stucture of Marshall camp: "Nothing earth shattering. We're going to sprinkle in a few one-a-days here and there. Even though we're only going to sprinkle in a one-a-day here and there we'll have walk-throughs and some other things on those days."
On general positive attitude of team: "I think work ethic brings that. When you work hard you tend to feel better about yourself and better about each other. I would imagine that's where that comes from. I think overall the leadership of the team is positive. That helps. I don't think guys who are going to lead this team are going to let guys walk around with long looks on their faces."
