Indiana Conducts Three-a-Day Practice SessionsBloomington, Ind. -- The Indiana University football squad held its second consecutive day of three-a-day practices today at the practice fields adjacent to the Mellencamp Pavilion.
The following are selected Cam Cameron quotes:
On questions in the secondary: "We've got more guys in the secondary who are competing and we haven't settled on a starting lineup yet. (Senior) Mike McGrath and (sophomore) Greg Yeldell return at the safeties and (true freshman) Joe Gonzalez has come in and really caught everybody's attention. (Sophomore) Brandon Rodgers will figure in there somewhere. (Junior college transfer) Johnny Anderson will also figure in there. We have more numbers at safety so there is a lot more competition. We don't know who is going to start there yet, necessarily. At the corners, we have more competition with Sharrod Wallace, Maurice Tucker, Curtis Randle El, O.J. Spencer, and now Michael Hanley is a young guy who has come in and is competing. There's just more competion but no one has really separated himself from the rest of the group. Greg Yeldell is probably the one guy who has played the most consistantly."
On moving redshirt freshman Derek Barnett to Whip: "It's really an outside linebacker spot who also rushes a lot. It's an in-between position. We like the things that Joslin Goodman is doing there but we want to create some depth because, although David Fiegle and Vince Lidy are doing some good things, if those guys get banged up we want to make sure we have another guy. Derek has shown enough good signs at defensive end that we want to find a way to get him on the field but he is behind Wale' (Adewale Ogunleye). If Wale' gets hurt Derek will move back to that spot in all likelihood."
On injuries: "(Senior guard) Matt Snyder was out but it looks like he's now going to be o.k. Other than that, (senior fullback) Jason Spear hurt his ankle but he'll be back. There is no one as of right this second that we would say is going to be out for the opening game."
