Bloomington, Ind. -- Head football coach Cam Cameron today announced that two fifth-year seniors and a sophomore in eligibility have been selected as tri-captains by their teammates for the upcoming 1999 season. Fifth-year senior defensive end Adewale Ogunleye (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville), fifth-year senior tackle Craig Robeen (Hardin, Ill./Calhoun), and sophomore quarterback Antwaan Randle El (Riverdale, Ill./Thornton) were voted captains by their teammates last evening.
"Being selected as an Indiana football captain by your teammates is one of the most important honors an Indiana University football player can receive," said Cameron. "These three men are very good football players and possess excellent leadership qualities."
Ogunleye, who has started 31 games during his career, is Indiana's career leader in sacks (26.5) and tackles for loss (53). He is an Indiana University graduate and has earned numerous preseason All-America honors.
Robeen has started 22 consecutive games at right tackle and will be expected to be one of the finest offensive tackles in the Big Ten Conference this fall.
The Big Ten Freshman-of-the-Year in 1998, Randle El is widely regarded as one of the nation's most exciting players. He threw for 1,745 yards and six touchdowns and rushed for 873 yards and 10 touchdowns last season.
