Game Data: The Indiana soccer team hosts the 17th annual adidas/IU Credit Union Classic this Friday and Sunday at Bill Armstrong Stadium on the Indiana campus.

Indiana Head Coach Jerry Yeagley is in his 27th year at Indiana. He has a career record of 457-80-37. He has led the Hoosiers to national titles in 1982, 1983, 1988, and 1998, 12 Final Four appearances and seven Big Ten titles.
Series Record: This is the first meeting between IU and Maryland. On the other hand, IU and St. Louis have a lengthy history. IU leads the series by a 18-6-3 mark. This is the 28th meeting between the two schools. IU and St. Louis met earlier in an exhibition match where the Billikens prevailed 3-2.
Exhibition Recap: The Hoosiers went 1-1-1 in their three exhibition games over the last two weeks. On Saturday, Aug. 21, IU lost to St. Louis 3-2. Yuri Lavrinenko and Tyler Hawley scored the goals. Last Wednesday, Indiana shutout IUPUI 1-0 in the first ever meeting. Ryan Mack scored the only goal and led the Hoosiers with 8 shots. IU concluded the exhibition schedule at Clemson last Saturday. The tight battle ended in a 1-1 tie. The Hoosiers tied the game in the 73rd minute as Yuri Lavrinenko converted on a penalty kick.
In the three games, the Hoosiers amassed 36 shots and held an 29-6 advantage in corner kicks. Coach Yeagley used all three of his goalkeepers. Junior T.J. Hannig played 180 total minutes and made 5 saves. Sophomore Colin Rogers saw action in the second half of the St. Louis game and freshman Doug Warren played a full period of the IUPUI game.
Last Year's Tournament: Indiana won last year's tournament after beating College of Charleston 1-0 in an overtime thriller and California 2-0. Yuri Lavrinenko scored the winning goal in the 100th minute against C of C as the Hoosiers outshot the Cougars 13-4 and held a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks. Ryan Mack and Dema Kovalenko were the goal scorers against Cal. In the consolation game, Butler defeated C of C 2-1.
A Look Back: Last season, Indiana won their fourth national title and grabbed their seventh Big Ten title in eight years. The Hoosiers went 23-2 with 17 shutouts, including five against Big Ten opponents. They also claimed the nation's best defense with a mere goals against average of 0.42.
What's Returning: Seven starters return to this year's team, including four of the top six scorers from a year ago. Leading the list of returnees are 1999 preseason National Player of the Year candidates Nick Garcia, Aleksey Korol, and Yuri Lavrinenko. Garcia, a two-time All-American, led the nation's best defense last season. Korol led the team in scoring last year with 17 goals and 44 points. Lavrinenko added six goals and five assists for 17 points. Other returnees include Ryan Mack (7-4-18), Matt Fundenberger (2g, 8 a, 12 pts), Tyler Hawley (2-1-5) and goalkeeper T.J. Hannig (23-2, 0.44 GAA). Freshmen Phil Presser, Pat Noonan, and goalie Doug Warren should all be vying for time as well.
Hoosiers Ranked First in Poll: Indiana is ranked first in Soccer America's Preseason Poll. The Hoosiers were ranked No. 1 most of last season and all of the 1997 season. Indiana is also ranked first in the preseason NSCAA rankings.
Hoosiers Named All-American: Soccer America released preseason All-American teams and three Indiana players have made either the first team. Nick Garcia, Aleksey Korol and Yuri Lavrinenko made the 11-player list.
Next Up: The Hoosiers play at the Brown adidas Classic next weekend in Providence, R.I. IU plays Yale Friday, Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. followed by a game against Brown on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 2:30 p.m.
