HOOSIERS PLAY IN THE NIKE/SNICKERS SOCCERFEST IV

Game Data: The Indiana Hoosiers play in the Nike/Soccerfest hosted by Butler University at Kuntz Stadium in Indianapolis over the weekend. The Hoosiers play Fresno State at 6 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 18) and Texas Christian Sunday (Sept. 19) at 2 p.m.
Indiana Head Coach Jerry Yeagleyis in his 27th year at Indiana and is the winningest coach in collegiate soccer history. He has a career record of 459-82-37. He has led the Hoosiers to national titles in 1982, 1983, 1988, and 1998, 12 Final Four appearances and seven Big Ten titles.
Hoosiers In the Polls: After last week's loss at Yale, the Hoosiers are ranked fourth in the nation by Soccer America and eighth by the NSCAA. Indiana remains the top team in the Great Lakes Region.
Series Matchups: Indiana and Fresno State are meeting for the 3rd time. IU has never defeated the Bulldogs as Fresno State leads the series 2-0. The last meeting occurred back in 1985. On the other hand, this is the first meeting between Texas Christian and Indiana.
A Look at the Bulldogs: Fresno State is 3-1-1 on the season. The Bulldogs played in the Nike Goldrush Classic over the weekend losing to Oakland 2-1 and defeating Gonzaga 2-1. Forward Hugo Alcaraz and Dana McGregor lead the Bulldogs with seven points. Alcaraz has two goals and three assists while McGregor has three goals and one assist. Freshman goalkeeper Jeremy Proud has played in all 450 minutes. He boosts a .80 goals-against-average and has made 11 saves.
A Look at the Horned Frogs: Texas Christian stands at 0-2-1 this season. They lost their last game to St. Mary's 5-3 last Wednesday, September 8. Nic Finn, Ryan Parsley, and Charlie Schultz have each scored one goal for the Frogs. Ian Keate is the team's keeper and owns a 0.42 goal-against-average.
Last Week Recap: The Hoosiers split a pair of games last weekend in Providence at the adidas Brown Classic. Indiana started the tournament losing to unranked Yale 2-1 and then defeated 8th-ranked Brown 5-0. Against Yale, the Hoosiers managed to tie the game 1-1 with four in a half minutes remaining. But the Bulldogs answered quickly scoring the winning goal with only 1:30 left on the clock. Yale outshot IU 10-7 while IU had the small 8-7 advantage on corner kicks.
The Hoosiers came into the Brown match ready to score. At the seven minute mark, IU scored its first goal by Matt Fundenberger from a cross by Ryan Mack. Within 11 minutes, the Hoosiers scored three more times, two of those goals by Tyler Hawley off corner kicks by Mack and a goal by Korol. Marcus Chorvat scored his first career goal to conclude the first period with a 5-0 advantage over Brown. IU outshot Brown 14-11 and a 9-2 advantage on corners.
.500 Club: The last time IU was .500 on the season dates back to 1992. The '92 Hoosiers also started the year 2-2 and went on to record a 14-6-4 season. They advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament eventually losing to San Diego 2-0.
Hoosier News and Notes: Aleksey Korol scored his 40th career goal against Brown. That places him in a tie for 9th on the all-time IU list. He needs just four more to take over 8th place. His 105 career points are now tied for 10th on the all-time scoring list with fellow Ukrainian Dema Kovalenko. Korol ranks third in the Big Ten with three goals and six points Tyler Hawley scored two goals against Brown for a single game career-high 4 points. He has already tied the number of goals he scored last season. Goalkeeper Doug Warren registered his first shutout of the season over the weekend. His GAA stands at 0.45 heading into the week. That average also ranks third in the Big Ten and 14th in the countryKorol, Yuri Lavrinenko and Nick Garcia were all named to the Brown all-tournament teamRyan Mack is tied for the Big Ten lead with three assists while freshman Pat Noonan is tied for sixth with one assist...The Hoosiers have out scored their opponents 6-0 in the first half this season...Indiana is second in the Big Ten's with a goals against average of 0.71. Michigan State leads with 0.65.
Hoosiers Named All-American: Soccer America released preseason All-American teams and three Indiana players have made the first team. Nick Garcia, Aleksey Korol and Yuri Lavrinenko made the 11-player list.
Korol Becomes 13th Player to Score 100 Points: Senior forward Aleksey Korol scored his 100th point against Maryland to become just the 13th Hoosier in history to record 100 career points. He is now in the company of IU greats like Ken Snow and Armando Betancourt and recent greats like Dema Kovalenko and Lazo Alavanja.
Next Up: The Hoosiers travel to Louisville next Thursday (Sept. 23) at 7:30 p.m. Following that matchup, Indiana opens the Big Ten Conference season hosting Michigan State. That game is scheduled for Sunday (Sept. 26) at 2 p.m. EDT.
