KENTUCKY DEFEATS INDIANA IN ANOTHER SHOOTOUT, 44-35

Bloomington, Ind. -- The University of Kentucky (2-1) defeated Indiana (1-2) today, 44-35, before 39,146 at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington. Indiana cut the Kentucky lead to 41-35 with 3:17 remaining in the game and got the ball back after senior DE Adewale Ogunleye forced a fumble that was recovered by strong safety Greg Yeldell at the IU-36. However, sophomore quarterback Antwaan Randle El was intercepted on the ensuing drive and K Marc Samuel's field goal with 1:30 remaining in the contest sealed the game.
Kentucky entered the scoring column first when WR Quentin McCord (1-44-1TD) caught a 44-yard touchdown from QB Dusty Bonner (31-24-304-1INT-5TDs) with 9:45 remaining in the first quarter. On the ensuing kickoff, sophomore Derin Graham returned a kick 90 yards for a touchdown. It was the second kickoff return for a touchdown during his young career. Indiana increased its lead on the next series when Randle El (20-115-3TDs rushing, 32-16-201-3INTs-1TD passing) capped a 11-play, 58-yard, drive on a 3-yard scoring run with 2:34 remaining in the first quarter.
Kentucky answered right back with 13:58 remaining in the second quarter. Bonner found WR Brad Pryatt (1-19-1TD) on a 19-yard scoring play that tied the game at 14-14. It capped an 8-play, 80-yard, drive. The Wildcats increased their lead to 21-14 on their next possession when Bonner found TE James Whalen (10-121-1TD) on a 27-yard pass play. Bonner would throw his fourth touchdown of the game with 5:15 remaining in the half when he found Dougie Allen for a touchdown that gave Kentucky a 28-14 lead. The Wildcats would take the 14-point lead into halftime.
Indiana answered back immediately in the third stanza. Randle El scored on a 17-yard run with 13:15 remaining in the third. An Andy Payne extra point pulled the lead to seven at 28-21. Kentucky would score yet another touchdown, this one a 17-yard pass from Bonner to Allen to close the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Randle El pulled Indiana to within 10 points, 38-28, with 11:27 remaining in the game. However, after the late fumble return by Ogunleye wasn't enough as a late interception by Eric Kelly and the field goal by Samuel sealed the Kentucky victory.
