HOOSIERS SHUTOUT TCU 1-0
9/19/1999 12:00:00 AM | Men's Soccer
Indianapolis, Ind--Although the Indiana Hoosiers only defeated the Texas Christian Horned Frogs 1-0 at the Nike/Snickers Soccerfest IV, IU dominated the game from every angle.
"We found a way to win again," head coach Jerry Yeagley said. "I was very pleased with a lot of our performance."
The Hoosiers held a commanding advantage in shots and corner kicks throughout the whole game. At the half, IU had already tallied 10 shots while TCU could not muster any shots against the tough Hoosier defense.
"Our defense was smothering," Yeagley said. "Our goalkeeper did not have to make any hard saves."
Goalie Ian Keate, an all-tournament selection, kept the game close registering seven saves.
IU picked up the pace in the second period outshooting the Horned Frogs 12-4 and holding a 4-0 advantage in corners. In total, IU outshot TCU 22-4, their best offensive production of the season.
At the 83rd minute, Aleksey Korol came through for the Hoosiers once again. Yuri Lavrinenko first took a close shot that Keate saved, and Korol picked up the rebound and fired in the six yard shot for the game's only goal. That goal marked his fifth goal in six games.
"We made strides all week," Yeagley said. "This weekend we were the dominate team. Now we finally have a winning streak."
The Hoosiers do not play until Thursday, September when they travel to Louisville. Action begins at 7:30 p.m.
