HOOSIERS TRAVEL TO LOUISVILLE and HOST MICHIGAN STATE

Game Data: The Indiana Hoosiers travel to Louisville this Thursday, Sept. 23. Actions gets underway at 7:30 p.m. Then the Hoosiers open the Big Ten season with Michigan State at Bill Armstrong Stadium on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Indiana Head Coach Jerry Yeagley is in his 27th year at Indiana and is the winningest coach in collegiate soccer history. He has a career record of 461-82-37. He has led the Hoosiers to national titles in 1982, 1983, 1988, and 1998, 12 Final Four appearances and seven Big Ten titles.
Aleksey Korol Named Big Ten Player of the Week: After last weekend's performance, Aleksey Korol was named Big Ten Player of the Week. At the Nike/Snickers Soccerfest IV, Korol scored both game-winning goals to lead the Hoosiers past Fresno State and Texas Christian. He was also named to the all-tournament team.
Hoosiers In the Polls: After the Hoosier's two wins last weekend, Indiana moved to third on Soccer America's poll and seventh on the NCSAA poll. Indiana remains the top team in the Great Lakes Region.
Series Matchups: Indiana has never lost to Louisville or Michigan State. The Hoosiers lead the series against the Cardinals 6-0 and 2-0 at Cardinal Field. In 1998, IU shutout Louisville 3-0. Against Michigan State, IU leads the all-time series with a 24-0 record. Last season, IU defeated MSU 3-0 to open the 1998 Big Ten season.
A Look at the Cardinals: Louisville stands at 4-2-1. They defeated preseason Conference USA favorite South Florida 4-0 Saturday afternoon at Cardinal Field. Justin Prather scored two of the three goals, while George Zabaneh added the other one.
A Look at the Spartans: Michigan State is 3-2-1. The Spartans lost last weekend against no. 23 California. Keith Gordon and Mike Trivelloni lead the team with six points. Gordon has scored three goals while Trivelloni has scored two goals and tallied two assists. Junior goalkeeper Tim Lieckfelt has played all but 45 minutes of the season. He has made 12 saves and owns a 1.31 goals-against-average.
Last Week Recap: The Hoosiers ride a three-game winning streak after defeating Fresno State 2-1 and Texas Christian 1-0 at the Nike/Snickers Soccerfest IV hosted by Butler. Similar to the Yale game, IU got into a hole against Fresno State 1-0. At the 80th minute, Matt Fundenberger grabbed a cross from Nick Garcia to net the Hoosier's first goal. The game remained tied until the 89th minute. Aleksey Korol scored the game-winner with just :20 seconds to spare.
Against TCU, IU dominated all aspects of the game. The Hoosiers held a significant advantage in shots (22-4) and in corners (7-2), but they could not finish their chances. The 22 shots was a season best. Korol scored the game's only goal at the 83rd minute, off missed Yuri Lavrinenko shot. Korol also led the team with eight shots. Korol, Justin Tauber, and Dennis Fadeski were named to the all-tournament team. Fadeski was named the Defensive MVP.
Hoosier News and Notes: Aleksey Korol scored his 42th career goal against TCU. That places solely in 9th place on the all-time IU list. He needs just two more to tie for 8th place with Brian Maisonneuve. His 109 career points are now 10th on the all-time scoring list. Korol ranks second in goals and third with ten points in the Big Ten statisticsTyler Hawley and Matt Fundenberger are tied for seventh in the Big Ten rankings with two goals apiece...Goalkeeper T.J. Hannig ranks first in the Big Ten with a 0.62 goals-against-average. That average is also 20th in the nation...Freshman 'keeper Doug Warren registered his second win of the season against Fresno State. His GAA stands at 0.67 good for second in the Big TenRyan Mack is second in the Big Ten with three assists while junior Nick Garcia is tied for fourth with two assists...The Hoosiers have out scored their opponents 6-0 in the first half this seasonIndiana is fourth in the Big Ten with a goals against average of 0.64. Michigan State and Penn State lead with 0.17.
Hoosiers Named All-American: Soccer America released preseason All-American teams and three Indiana players have made the first team. Nick Garcia, Aleksey Korol and Yuri Lavrinenko made the 11-player list.
Korol Becomes 13th Player to Score 100 Points: Senior forward Aleksey Korol scored his 100th point against Maryland to become just the 13th Hoosier in history to record 100 career points. He is now in the company of IU greats like Ken Snow and Armando Betancourt and recent greats like Dema Kovalenko and Lazo Alavanja.
Next Up: Following this weekend's action, the Hoosiers prepare for no. 1 (NSCAA) Penn State on Friday, October 1. Action begins at 7:30 p.m. at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
