HOOSIERS FALL TO ILLINOIS IN BIG TEN OPENER
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Indiana's volleyball team picked up it's first loss of the season Wednesday night versus the Fighting Illini in Huff Hall. The Illini defeated the Hoosiers in three straight games 15-10, 15-13, 15-12. The Hoosiers are now 9-1 overall and 0-1 in Big Ten play.
Junior outside hitter Amanda Welter led the Hoosiers will 21 kills on 39 attempts. Welter also tallied 10 digs, two service aces, and six blocks on the night. Senior Ryann Connors added 14 kills to the Hoosiers attack. Senior Cydryce Carter recorded 12 kills on 19 attemps for a .421 attack percentage. Freshman Laurie Gardner came into the match during the thrid game and made a solid contribution with 20 assists and four digs.
"We played tentative," said Weismiller. "We didn't come out very aggressive at all. We also struggled in serving with 11 service errors. It really cost us."
The Hoosiers will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 25, traveling to Northwestern to play in the Welsh-Ryan Arena at 7 p.m., in Evanston.
