HOOSIERS OPEN SEASON WITH 3-0 VICTORY
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Indiana volleyball team started the 1999 campaign with a victory over Florida International at the Tallahassee Democrat/Florida State Classic in Tallahassee. It took the Hoosiers just three games to defeat the Golden Panthers 15-4, 15-12, 15-8.
Coach Katie Weismiller was able to experiment and try different rotations in the match as all 13 player saw action. Right side hitter Amanda Welter led IU with 15 kills, five digs, three block assists and two service aces. The junior also posted an impressive hitting percentage, recording no errors on 25 attempts. Freshman outside hitter Kristen Daly recorded 11 kills and six digs in her first collegiate outing.
Head Coach Katie Weismiller was pleased with her team's performance. "Overall, I am happy with what I saw tonight," said Weismiller. "We were able to play lots of personnel and experiment and find the areas we need to work on. Individually, I think Amanda played well all-around. With Ryann Connors not playing because of injury, Amanda is really stepping up in the leadership role and asking for the ball."
Indiana will be back in action again tomorrow (Saturday), facing South
Carolina at 10 a.m., and tournament host Florida State at 7 p.m. (Eastern).
