WELTER NAMED CO-BIG TEN PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Indiana volleyball junior Amanda Welter has been named Co-Big Ten Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Welter shares the honor with Michigan's Joanna Fielder.
Welter, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, helped lead the Hoosiers to wins over Florida International, South Carolina, and Florida State this past weekend in the Florida State Tournament. She also earned honors as the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
The 6-3 outside hitter led Indiana with 42 kills in three matches for an average of 4.2 kills per game. Welter also tallied 18 digs, 11 total blocks and 4 service aces in Indiana's opening weekend.
Other Hoosiers to make the all-tournament team where Kristina Sanderson and Cydryce Carter. Sanderson led the team in assists with 89 (11.13 assists per game) and recorded 18 digs for the weekend. Carter led Indiana in digs, blocks, and service aces, averaging 3.00 digs, 1.20 blocks, and 0.60 service aces per game. For the weekend, Carter totaled 24 kills, 30 digs, 12 total blocks and 6 service aces.
The Hoosiers will be back in action Tuesday, Sept. 7, hosting Indiana State at University Gym.
