HOOSIERS DOWN ISU 3-0
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana's volleyball team delivered a 3-0 victory for the hometown crowd in its season home opener at University Gym Tuesday night, defeating Indiana State 15-9, 15-11, 15-8. With the win, the Hoosiers improve to 4-0.
The Hoosiers experimented with three different lineups in the match, using redshirt freshman setter Laurie Gardner in the first two games. Indiana fans also witnessed a game three appearance by Ryann Connors who had been sidelined after having orthoscopic knee surgery Aug. 20.
Co-Big Ten Player of the Week Amanda Welter led the Hoosiers with 12 kills while teammate Jill Mudge added 10. Middle blocker Cydryce Carter performed well all-around for the Hoosiers with seven kills, nine digs and six blocks.
Coach Katie Weismiller was pleased with her team's victory. "I was very pleased with the outcome of tonight's match," said Weismiller. "Indiana State is a good team and they have very good ball control. For us to beat them on a Tuesday night after having just come off of three big road wins this weekend, I am very happy."
The Hoosiers return to action this weekend, competing against Connecticut
in the Duke Classic in Durham, N.C., Friday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. (Eastern).
