Game Data: The Indiana soccer team travels to the Brown adidas Soccer Classic this weekend in Providence, Rhode Island.

Indiana Head Coach Jerry Yeagleyis in his 27th year at Indiana. He has a career record of 458-81-37. He has led the Hoosiers to national titles in 1982, 1983, 1988, and 1998, 12 Final Four appearances and seven Big Ten titles.
Series Record: Yale and Indiana have only met once. In that game in 1991, Yale defeated the Hoosiers 2-1. Yale is just one of five teams Coach Yeagley owns a losing record. On the other hand, this is the first meeting between Brown and Indiana.
A Look at Yale: Head coach Brian Tompkins returns five of the top six scorers from a year ago that won 10 games and finished second in the Ivy League. 1998 Ivy league Player of the Year Jac Gould leads the Bulldogs. Last season, he broke the school record for points in a season with 35 points (15 goals and 5 assists). Gould is assisted by Phil Harris. Also a first team All-Ivy selection, Harris scored 28 points last season. The Bulldogs also return two experienced keepers in junior Danny Moss and senior David Boehmer.
A Look at Brown: The Ivy League champions went 12-3-2 last season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Head coach Mike Noonan returns four of the top six scorers including Marcio who led the Bears with six goals, four assists and 16 points. He is backed by Scott Powers with 10 points (3-4-10 pts) and Adrian Rapp (4-1-9 pts). Matthew Cross returns as the Bear's keeper. He registered a 0.72 goals against average and tallied 73 saves.
adidas Classic Recap: The Hoosiers won their first game of the season against the no.2 ranked Maryland Terrapins 1-0 in front of 4,726 fans, the school's sixth largest crowd. Aleksey Korol scored his first goal of the season to become the 13th player in school history to score over 100 career points. He was assisted by freshman Pat Noonan. The Terrapins outshot the Hoosiers 13-6 and held an 11-2 advantage on corner kicks.
Saint Louis shotout Butler 2-0 to compete in the title game against Indiana. The Billikens proved their 3-2 exhibition game was no fluke as they defeated the Hoosiers in double overtime 1-0. Billiken Jeff DiMaria, the tournament's Offensive MVP, hit a direct blast from 18 yards away to upset the no. 1 Hoosiers. St. Louis used their defense to secure the victory as the Hoosiers recorded no shots in overtime and just six total shots.
Another Ranked Opponent: After playing no.2 ranked Maryland and no. 12 ranked St. Louis last weekend, IU now prepares for no. 8 ranked Brown.
Korol Becomes 13th Player to Score 100 Points: Senior forward Aleksey Korol is just the 13th Hoosier in history to record 100 career points. He is now in the company of IU greats like Ken Snow and Armando Betancourt and recent greats like Dema Kovalenko and Lazo Alavanja.
A Look Back: Last season, Indiana won their fourth national title and grabbed their seventh Big Ten title in eight years. The Hoosiers went 23-2 with 17 shutouts, including five against Big Ten opponents. They also claimed the nation's best defense with a mere goals against average of 0.42.
What's Returning: Seven starters return to this year's team, including four of the top six scorers from a year ago. Leading the list of returnees are 1999 preseason National Player of the Year candidates Nick Garcia, Aleksey Korol, and Yuri Lavrinenko. Garcia, a two-time All-American, led the nation's best defense last season. Korol led the team in scoring last year with 17 goals and 44 points. Lavrinenko added six goals and five assists for 17 points. Other returnees include Ryan Mack (7-4-18), Matt Fundenberger (2g, 8 a, 12 pts), Tyler Hawley (2-1-5) and goalkeeper T.J. Hannig (23-2, 0.44 GAA). Freshmen Phil Presser, Pat Noonan, and goalie Doug Warren should all be vying for time as well.
Hoosiers Ranked Third in Poll: Indiana is ranked third in Soccer America's Poll dropping just two spots from last week. The Hoosiers were ranked No. 1 most of last season and all of the 1997 season.
Hoosiers Named All-American: Soccer America released preseason All-American teams and three Indiana players have made the first team. Nick Garcia, Aleksey Korol and Yuri Lavrinenko made the 11-player list.
Next Up: The Hoosiers play in the Nike/Soccerfest next weekend in Indianapolis. They take on Fresno State Saturday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m., followed by Texas Christian on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
