MORE HEISMAN HYPE FOR RANDLE EL
Bloomington, Ind. -- Just days after The Sporting News named junior quarterback Antwaan Randle El as one of its top 10 frontrunners for the 2000 Heisman Trophy, Randle El has received more national recognition. Most recently, CBS SportsLine Senior Writer Dennis Dodd named Randle El to "Your first Heisman list of the new millennium." He was one of only four players (Brees, Crouch, and Vick) to be named to both lists.
Other players on the list include (in alphabetical order): Drew Brees, QB, Purdue; Eric Crouch, QB, Nebraska; Kurt Kittner, QB, Illinois; Ken Simonton, RB, Oregon State; LaDainian Tomlinson, RB, TCU; David Terrell, WR, Michigan; Marques Tuiasosopo, QB, Washington; Michael Vick, QB, Virginia Tech; and Chris Weinke, QB, Florida State.
Randle El finished the 1999 season having completed 150 of 279 passes for 2,227 yards and 17 touchdowns and he rushed 224 times for 788 yards and 13 touchdowns. He accounted for 30 touchdowns, the most in school history.
