Ogunleye Invited to 2000 National Invitational Camp: Indiana All-America defensive end Adewale Ogunleye has been invited to the National Invitational Camp (better known as the NFL Combine) which will be held in Indianapolis from February 25 27. Ogunleye, who underwent successful knee surgery this past fall after sustaining torn knee ligaments in the fourth quarter of game six vs. Northwestern, is scheduled to be tested and interviewed on February 26. The defensive line will work out for NFL personnel on Sunday, February 27.
Cameron pleas for high School football program: Head football coach Cam Cameron spoke to members of the Eastern Greene Board of School Trustees and more than 150 district residents on Tuesday, February 8, to plea for adding football to the high school athletic program. The board meeting produced an unexpected overflow crowd that was so large the meeting had to be moved two times to larger rooms to accommodate the overflow crowd. Eastern began its organized youth football program in 1997 and Indiana football has been involved in the youth program since its inception. Said Cameron, "We've supported these guys for a long time. I've seen the energy and effort that everyone of those people have put in. I can't say enough good about them. "He added, "There is a kid in this room that has a dream today of playing football at Indiana University...and the only what that dream will happen if for you to allow them to play junior high football and high school football. I'll bet money, that someday, somebody in this room will have the opportunity to come play for me at Indiana University."
Randle El and Smith participate in DARE program: Junior quarterback Antwaan Randle El and junior linebacker Justin Smith recently participated in two separate DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) graduations. Randle El visited Templeton Elementary School on Tuesday, January 18, and Smith spoke at Fairview Elementary on Wednesday, January 19.
Randle El featured on nationally syndicated television show: Junior quarterback Antwaan Randle El, one of the frontrunners for the 2000 Heisman Trophy was recently featured on a nationally syndicated television program called "Faces in Courage: Legacy." The show was aired in various markets throughout the country and hosted by television sports personality James Brown. The feature introduced Antwaan, his entire family, and focused most specifically on his involvement with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program.
