Hoosiers Host Ramada Inn/Blimpie's Indiana Invite
INVITE DATA: The Indiana University Women's Water Polo team will play host to Michigan University, Michigan State University and Bucknell University in the Ramada Inn/Blimpie's Indiana Invitational. Each team will play every other team once. The schedule is the following;
Saturday February 19
10:30am- Michigan vs. Bucknell
11:45am- Indiana vs. Michigan State
3:30pm- Michigan vs. Michigan State
4:45pm- Indiana vs. Bucknell
Sunday February 20
10:30am- Michigan State vs. Bucknell
11:45am- Indiana vs. Michigan

HEAD COACH BARRY KING...is now in his third season as Head Coach of the Women's Water Polo team. His overall record at Indiana is (47-27-1).
IN THE RANKINGS: The Hoosiers are ranked No. 17 in the Women's Collegiate poll.
NO LOSSES HERE: The Hoosiers return a strong nucleus including all but one starter from last years roster.
SIMONE IS BACK: Deb Simone returns to IU with an immense background. She earned the Big Ten MVP, All-Big Ten first-team and All-Midwest Regional first team selection in the 1999 season.
LEADER OF THE PACK: Deb Simone led the Hoosiers in steals (145), assists (45), and shots (161) last season. She also smashed the single season steal mark last year with four against Illinois at the Big Ten Tournament.
BY INVITATION ONLY: Teammates Deb Simone and Molly Fonner were nominated to represent Indiana University at the National Trials in Los Angeles California. Both put in stellar performances but failed to make the team.
NO END IN SIGHT: Deb Simone holds the game, season
and career records for the team in steals and assists. She also
holds the record for the most goals scored in a game and career.
CARPENTER LETS LOOSE: Kristin Carpenter holds the school record for most goals scored in a season with 52. She led the team in scoring 16 times, tying her for the single season record.
WHAT A WOMAN: Kristin Carpenter earned All-Big Ten first team, All-Midwest Regional first team and Academic All-Big Ten selection during last season.
HITTING THE BOOKS: The Hoosiers are not only impeccable athletes but they also excel in the classroom. Seven of the girls received Academic All-Big Ten selection which include Kristin Carpenter, Melissa DeBiasse, Sheri Fagley, Molly Fonner, Zan Kaufman, Kelly McKay and Deb Simone
WATCH OUT FOR FAGLEY: Sheri Fagley holds the season(26) and career(48) high records for Kickouts.
BEFORE THEY WERE STARS: The Water Polo team has only been recognized as a varsity sport for three years. During the start of the club team the Hoosiers totaled a program record of 26 wins, won the Midwest Regional Championship and made a trip to Nationals.
HOW ABOUT THEM HOOSIERS: In 1996, the water polo team was the highest ranked Division II team not from the state of California.
FAMILIAR FACES: The Hoosiers have made appearances to Nationals ever since they have been a varsity sport.
HOME ADVANTAGE: This year the 2000 Nationals will be hosted by Indiana University. On Friday, they will be held at the Student Recreational Sport Complex in Bloomington, Indiana and the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana. Saturday and Sunday's action will take place in Indianapolis.
NEWCOMERS: The water polo team has gained the help of eight new freshmen and Coach Barry King has much in store for them, "We will be looking to these girls to help us with our depth situation. So many of them will be expected to see a lot of minutes."
GETTING TO KNOW YOU: The new freshmen are Sarah Butler,
Jamie Marley, Kristen McGlennon, Katherine Pyle, Kirstin Reuter,
Karolyn Shapiro, Kristin Stanford and Ginger Wang.
