Indiana to Host Coaches Clinic

The Indiana University Men's Soccer team will host the 2000
Midwest Soccer Coaches Symposium (MSCS) to be held April 7 and
8. This informative symposium is designed to offer soccer coaches
throughout the Midwest two days of professional development.
The informative and stimulating coaching sessions give coaches
a unique opportunity to grow with the game.
This year's symposium offers instruction from two of the country's
top coaches in Jerry Yeagley and John Ellinger. Indiana University's
Head Coach Jerry Yeagley is the only five-time NCAA Division
I Coach of the Year award. He has led Indiana to five national
championships and 13 Final Four appearances. The 1999 campaign
saw the Hoosiers win the NCAA Division I Championship for the
second straight season. Coach Yeagley's assistant coaches, Mike
Freitag and John Trask, both U.S. Soccer A licensed coaches,
will also serve as clinicians.
John Ellinger, Head Coach of the US Under 17 National Team, will
serve as this year's special guest clinician. Coach Ellinger
brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from every level
of the game in this country. He guided the Under- 17 team to
the best men's finish ever in a World Championship.
Other clinicians include Rob Kehoe, a nationally recognized performance
consultant and Steve Franklin, head coach of IUPUI and former
Indiana University staff member. Katrin Koch, Indiana University's
Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, will share insight into
Indiana's fitness training which is a vital element contributing
to the Hoosiers success.
Indiana University's Mellencamp Pavilion will serve as the arena
for the coaching sessions. The $6 million state-of-the-art indoor
facility houses a full size soccer playing surface.
Coaches will also attend and analyze a spring game between IU's
1999 NCAA Division I Champions and IUPUI. This will provide a
unique opportunity for the participants to view the current NCAA
Champions in action. During the match, symposium clinician will
offer insightful analysis.
A unique feature of the symposium will be a game analysis of
the Indiana team performance against IUPUI. This will provide
an excellent opportunity for symposium participants to express
views and ask questions.
