HOOSIERS IMPROVE TO 8-0 AT HOME; DEFEAT TAYLOR
Bloomington, Ind.--Indiana found itself in a pitcher's dual against Taylor but was able to post a 2-1 victory to improve to 8-0 at Sembower Field and 16-7 on the season.
Indiana manufactured a pair of runs in the seventh inning as the Hoosiers finally broke through against Taylor starter Dan Rocke. Tim McNab led off the inning with a bunt single and stole second base. He scored on a John Bestler basehit to centerfield. Bestler advanced to second on the throw home and later scored on a single by Benji Clause to give the Hoosiers a 2-1 lead.
Taylor got on the board first when Joshua Cooper plated a run with a sacrifice fly to centerfield. The run snapped a string of 12 scoreless innings by Indiana pitchers. The Hoosier staff has now allowed just one run in its last 20 innings of work.
Ryan Smith (2-0) earned the victory in relief. Chris Wilson closed out the game with his second save of the season. The Hoosiers used five different pitchers on the afternoon and allowed just five hits and struck out 12 batters. Indiana has fanned 50 hitters in its last four games.
The Hoosiers will open Big Ten play this weekend when they
travel to Penn State to face the Nittany Lions in a four-game
series Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
