Hoosiers Drop One-Run Game Against Wolverines

Bloomington, Ind.-Michigan ended Indiana's 11-game home streak
with a 7-6 victory in the Big Ten home opener for the Hoosiers.
Michigan (8-13-1, 1-4) erased a 4-0 Indiana lead with four runs in the seventh inning to grab a 7-4 advantage. The Wolverines capatalized on three hits, a hits batsmen, a walk and a balk to take the lead.
"I was dissapointed in our offense," said head coach
Bob Morgan. "We got up 4-0, but then we're down 6-7 and
we didn't execute in the ninth. We've got to be hungrier than
that."
Indiana (18-11, 1-4) battled back scoring twice in the bottom half of the inning but fell one run short. Gibran Hamdan led off the seventh with a walk and moved to second on Jason Williams' third hit of the game. Kevin O'Brien loaded the bases when he was hit by a pitch and after a pitching change, Tim McNab forced home a run with a walk. Dan Haegele then provided a one-out sacrifice fly to right field to plate Williams making the score 7-6.
The Hoosiers jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second inning. Eric Blakeley led off the rally with a one-out triple and scored on a two-out triple by Williams. Williams then crossed home when O'Brien reached on a throwing error by third baseman Kevin Quinn.
Indiana increased its lead to 4-0 when freshman Vasilli Spanos connected on his first career homerun. His deep fly ball to right field bounced off of Jay Dines' glove off of the top of the wall and over the wall to plate Spanos and Haegele who had reached on a single.
Michigan got on the board when Robert Bodeda broke up Brad Edwards' no hitter with a home run to left field to lead off the fifth inning. Edwards had retired seven straight before the homerun and walked just one Wolverine.
Bodeda struck again in the sixth with a two-out, two-run single
to pull the Wolverines to within one at 4-3.
