Indiana will travel to Auburn, Alabama March 10-12 to compete in the War Eagle Classic at the Auburn University Softball Complex. The tournament consists of five team that will play two games on Friday and two games on Saturday to decide seeding for Sunday's games.

The Opponents
Akron: The Zips are coached by Deanna Parks. So far, Akron
has compiled a 3-2 record this season as they defeated Purdue, Temple and
Liberty in the Triangle Classic in Raleigh, North Carolina. Indiana is 3-2
vs. Akron in the series, but Akron defeated Indiana 8-4 during their last
meeting in 1991.

Miami-Ohio: The Redhawks are coached by Angie Jacobs. Miami
is 6-4 coming into this weekend's tournament. Indiana leads the series 17-5
over Miami as the Hoosiers swept the Redhawks in both games last season,
3-2 and 7-4.

Creighton: The Jays are now 8-4 after the weekend. The
series is tied between Indiana and Creighton at four games apiece. The Jays
defeated the Hoosiers 4-2 in their last meeting in 1993.

Auburn: The tigers are now 16-9 under the direction of
head coach Tina Deese. Indiana played Auburn earlier this season in the
USF-Gladstones tournament in Tampa, Florida. The Tigers defeated the Hoosiers
4-3. Auburn now leads the series 1-0.

Spring Break
Indiana will begin their spring break on Friday, March 10 at the War Eagle Classic in Auburn, Alabama. Following the tournament this weekend, the Hoosiers will play Auburn on Monday, March 13 at 2:00 p.m. On Tuesday, March 14, Indiana will travel to Troy State to play a double-header at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, the Hoosiers have a double-header with Georgia Tech at 1:00 p.m. The Hoosiers will come home for a day and then travel to Evansville on Friday, March 17 to play a single game at 5:00 p.m. On March 17-18, Indiana will compete in the Evansville Tournament.

Evansville: The Aces are 11-3-2. Indiana leads the series
18-1. In their last meeting, the Hoosiers defeated the Aces 6-1 during the
1997 season.

1-3 after competing in the Southern Illinois Softball Classic over the weekend.

Kentucky: The Wildcats are currently 7-12 on the season.
Indiana leads the series 1-0 after beating Kentucky 13-2 in 1997.

Butler: Butler is currently 7-16. Indiana leads the series
5-1-1 over Butler. The Hoosiers swept the Bulldogs in two games last season
7-2 each game.

Last Weekend
The Hoosiers went 1-4 in the Hillenbrand Softball Invitational March 3-5 in Tucson, Arizona. Indiana was defeated 1-0 by Tulsa and by No. 10 Oregon State on Friday. On Saturday, the Hoosiers defeated St. Peter's College 9-0 and then lost to Northwestern State 7-3. Indiana lost to No. 2 Arizona 10-1 on Sunday to wrap up the tournament.
Clearing The Bases
Sophomore Brooke Monroe had a career-high five RBIs in the win against St. Peters College on Saturday. Monroe had two hits, including a 3 RBI, double with two outs and the bases loaded. In the sixth inning, Monroe singled to center field to bring in teammates Staci Meek and Lisa Mattke.
Stealing The Show
Indiana has made the most of each runner on base as the Hoosiers are 13-14 (1.000) on stolen bases. Leading the way is senior Sheri Savko with five stolen bases. Senior Staci Meek has three while sophomore Monique Bullock and freshman Lisa Mattke have two apiece. Senior Monica Zahasky has one.

The Coaches
Diane Stephenson begins her 13th season as head coach for the Hoosiers. She has produced winning records in seven of her 12 seasons. Stephenson has accumulated a 359-307-3 (.539) career record, including a 150-149 (.502) record in Big Ten play. Her team made the NCAA Mideast Regional in 1994 and finished with a record of 49-16.
Assisting Stephenson will be Donna Bonebrake, now in her 5th season, and newcomer Jen McIntyre. McIntyre comes to Indiana from Penn State where she played third base for the Nittany Lions.
Coaches Corner
Indiana head softball coach Diane Stephenson:
"I feel that our overall record doesn't indicate that we're playing
well, but we've been really happy with the way we have played defensively
and how we've pitched. Up until this point, we've been able to play quite
a few errorless games and our pitchers have done a nice job. Right now,
we just need to have someone step up to the plate and knock a run in. I
think our upperclassmen have got to be able to come through when we have
people in scoring position and get the job done."
