Men's Tennis Defeats No. 54 Wisconsin 6-1
Madison, Wis. - The men's tennis team won its second straight Big Ten match with a victory over 54th-ranked Wisconsin 6-1 today. The win improved the Hoosiers record to 11-4 overall and 3-2 in the Big Ten.
The Hoosiers opened the day by sweeping all three doubles matches to win the doubles point. At No. 1, 55th-ranked Ian Arons and Gabriel Montilla defeated David Chang and Scott Rutherford 8-5. At No. 2, George McGill and Milan Rakvica were victorious over Justin Baker and Adam Schumacher 8-5. Paul Jacobson and Rahman Smiley defeated Jason Gonzaga and Danny Westerman 8-4.
In singles, Indiana won five of the six matches to post the victory. At No. 2, Arons was victorious over Chang 6-2,6-2. At No. 3, Montilla picked up a victory over Schumacher 7-5,6-3. McGill, playing at the No. 4 position, defeated Dustin Friedman 6-2,6-1. Jacobson won a close three-set match over Rutherford 6-4,3-6,6-3 at the No. 5 position. Smiley, playing at the No. 6 position, won two tiebreakers to defeat Gonzaga 7-6,7-6.
The Hoosiers only lost came at the No. 1 position as 86th-ranked Milan Rakvica lost to Danny Westerman 6-1,6-4
The Hoosiers will face two Big Ten opponents next week as
they travel to Michigan. On Saturday, the Hoosiers will face
Michigan in Ann Arbor at 1 p.m. and then they will travel to
East Lansing for a 1 p.m. match against Michigan State on Sunday.
