Hoosiers Lose Match To 14th-Ranked Notre Dame 8-0
Notre Dame, Ind. - The women's tennis team was shutout today by 14th-ranked Notre Dame 8-0. The Hoosiers (12-8, 5-2 in the Big Ten) played with only three of their normal starters and then lost Kelly Blanch to injury during her singles match.
The 51st-ranked Hoosiers began the day with singles. At No. 1, Jessica Anderson lost to 16th-ranked Michelle Dasso 6-1,6-3. At No. 2, Blanch was forced to retire after she took a hard fall moving to her right. She was down to Becky Varnum 7-6,5-2 at that time. At No. 3, Amanda Field lost her match to Kelly Zalinsky 6-2,6-2. At No. 4, Ann Poosuthasee was defeated by Nina Vaughn 6-0,6-3. At No. 5, Jennifer Hsia lost to Lindsey Green 6-2,6-1. Nicki Barnet, making her second career singles start, was defeated by Katie Cunha 6-0,6-2.
In doubles, the Hoosiers dropped the two matches played. At No. 2, Field and Hsia were defeated by Green and Zalinsky 9-8. At No. 3, Barnet and Poosuthasee lost to Cuhna and Sarah Scaringe 8-5.
The Hoosiers will be in action next weekend as they travel east to face
Penn State and Ohio State. Both matches will state at 10 a.m.
