Hoosiers Shutout Michigan State 7-0
East Lansing, Mich. - The men's tennis team shutout Michigan State 7-0 to win its fourth straight Big Ten match today. The Hoosiers (13-4) improved to 5-2 in the Big Ten, while the Spartans (6-16) fell to 1-5 in the conference.
The Hoosiers took the early 1-0 lead by sweeping the three doubles matches. At No. 1, Ian Arons and Gabriel Montilla defeated Mark Fielding and Ken Kigongo 6-3,6-0. George McGill and Milan Rakvica, playing at the No. 2 position, won a close match against Jimmy McGuire and Goran Topalo 9-8. Paul Jacobson and Rahman Smiley defeated Ivica Primorac and Francisco Trinidad 8-5 at No. 3.
In singles, Indiana swept all six matches, with only George McGill's needing a third set. At No. 1, Rakvica ended his four-match losing streak with a victory over Kigongo 6-3,6-0. Arons, playing at No.2, defeated Robert Topalo 6-3,6-2 to win his fourth straight match. At No. 3, Montilla was victorious over Primorac 6-2,6-4. McGill continued his dominance over the Big Ten (6-1 in 2000, 16-1 in past two years) with a win over Trinidad 7-5,2-6,6-4. At No. 5, Jacobson won his match over Goran Topalo 6-3,6-4 to post his fourth straight victory. At No. 6, Smiley won his fifth straight match with a win over Todd Townsend 7-5,6-2
The Hoosiers will conclude their home season with two matches
next weekend. On Saturday, they will face Ohio State at noon.
On Sunday, they will face Penn State at noon.
