IU SIGNS FIVE RECRUITS FOR NEXT SEASON
BLOOMINGTON, Ind.: Head coach Diane Stephenson announced the signing of five student-athletes for the 2001 season. The athletes include: Jill Stewart (Greenwood, Ind.), Abby Stark (Vancouver, Wash.), Dawn Ramynke (Placentia, Calif.), Heather Stillians (Atascadero, Calif.), and Valerie White (Torrance, Calif.).
Jill Stewart is a pitcher from Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Indiana. Stewart also plays for the Indiana Diamonds in the summer. She has excellent command of her pitches and will bring a lot of fire and spice to the mound for the Hoosiers next year.
Outfielder, Abby Stark, comes to Indiana from Central Catholic High School in Portland, Oregon. She also plays for the Aphis Ready Mix ASA team during the summer. Stark has been named both best offensive and defensive player for her high school team, a two time all-conference selection, and a member of the 4A Oregon State Champion team. Abby will bring a lot of speed to Indiana's lineup. She has been successful at both the high school and the ASA level. The staff looks for her to continue this success in the Big Ten.
Dawn Ramynke is a catcher and first baseman from Sonora High School in La Habra, California. The staff expects great things from Dawn. She will bring a lot of power to the lineup and solid defensive skills. She played with the American Athletics-Gold in the summer and brings a tremendous amount of spunk and energy to the game.
Heather Stillians is a first baseman and pitcher from Atascadero High School in Atascadero, California. Stillians plays for the Valley Ice ASA team in the summer. Heather will bring a variety of things to Indiana next fall. She has a great mix of pitches, can hit for power, and can play both first and third base. Coach Stephenson sees Heather filling a lot of roles for the Hoosiers both on the field and off the field. She has a great mind for the game and will be very successful at this level.
Valerie White, a first baseman and outfielder, is a senior at North High School in Torrance, California. White plays for the USA Athletics in the summer. Valerie brings the total package to Indiana. She has great fundamental skills, can hit for power from the plate, is very quick, and has tremendous ball sense. The Coaches are delighted that she has made the decision to be a Hoosier and are very confident that she will contribute great things to the program.
"We are very excited about our 2000 recruiting class," said head coach Diane Stephenson. "We have five outstanding athletes that are going to be very successful in the collegiate ranks. Their personalities mesh very well with our current roster and we look forward to their arrival in the fall."
Jill Stewart and Abby Stark signed during the early signing
period in the fall. Ramynke, Stillians, and White all signed
in April.
