Hoosiers Take Second Crown of Spring Season
San Antonio, Texas - Texas has proved the Indiana women's golf team's perfect spot to play. After winning the GTE "Mo"morial in Houston the first weekend in March, the Hoosiers rebounded from a six-stroke deficit on day one to capture the Baylor/Iowa San Antonio Shootout Title on Tuesday. Indiana shot a tournament-low 300 in the rain on the second 18 holes to finish with a 608; six strokes ahead of second-place Kent State.
Senior Natalie Tucker shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday then topped Kent State's Veronique Drouin in a playoff to win the individual title. The two finished at 146 over the two-round tournament with Tucker bogeying hole one to win the playoff.
Three of the five Hoosier competitors finished in the top four of the individual standings. Freshman Ambry Bishop shot a career-low 73 on Tuesday to finish at seven-over-par with a 151 and sole possession of third place in the tournament. Senior Inga Snyder finished tied for fourth after shooting rounds of 76 on both days. Junior Tiffany Fisher was fourth among her teammates and finished in a tie for 24th place with two rounds of 80. Redshirt freshman Danah Ford rebounded from a rough first round to shoot a 79 on day two. Ford finished tied for 49th place with a 165.
The Hoosiers have finished first or second in each of the three tournaments this spring. Indiana will host the Hoosier Classic on Thursday, April 5 and Friday, April 6. Tee times have not yet been announced.
