Bloomington, Ind. -- Diron (Die-Ron) Reynolds today was named defensive tackles coach at Indiana University, head coach Cam Cameron announced. Reynolds spent the 2000 season as the outside linebackers coach at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. While an assistant at Wake Forest from 1999-00, Reynolds worked directly with IU defensive coordinator James Bell and on the same staff as Indiana quarterbacks coach Gerald Carr. Coupled with the addition of Reynolds, Dick Flynn, who coached Indiana's outside linebackers in 2000, will now coach the team's defensive ends.
"We are very pleased to add Diron Reynolds to our staff," said Cameron. "He comes highly recommended and worked very effectively with James Bell on the defensive staff at Wake Forest. Diron is good young football coach and we expect him to be an important contributor to our defense."
A linebacker for the Demon Deacons from 1989-93, Reynolds coached outside linebackers on Jim Caldwell's staff at Wake Forest during the 1999 and 2000 seasons. Under the direction of Bell and Reynolds in 1999, Wake Forest produced one of the top defenses in the nation and ranked in the top 35 nationally in every statistical category.
Prior to being hired as a full-time assistant at Wake Forest in 1999, the Aiken, S.C., native spent the 1997 and 1998 seasons as a graduate assistant with the Demon Deacons. During that time, he assisted with the defensive line, worked closely with the offensive scout team, and also assisted with the program's video operation.
As a linebacker at Wake Forest from 1989-93, Reynolds earned four letters. After redshirting as a true freshman in 1989, he earned ACC Rookie-of-the-Week honors for his performance in a win over Army. He also played a significant role as a member of Wake Forest's 1992 Independence Bowl champions.
After graduating from Wake Forest in 1994 with a degree in communications, Reynolds spent two seasons as an assistant football, basketball, and track coach at Brooklyn-Cayce High School in Columbia, S.C.
Reynolds, who is single, is the brother of former Florida State defensive end Jamal Reynolds who is projected to be a first-round selection in the 2001 NFL Draft. Another brother, Rashad, played inside linebacker at Rice from 1994-98 and his dad, William, played defensive end at South Carolina State.
