Tucker Helps Lead Team USA to Victory Over Japan
Sano, Tochigi, Japan - Indiana graduate Natalie Tucker won two of three matches to contribute to the United States victory over Japan in the USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship. Tucker shot rounds of 79, 82, and 79.
Doubles stroke play led off day one of competition on July 3rd. Tucker combined with partner Natalie Gulbis to post a score of 151, defeating Japan's Kaori Kawanaka and Mika Saito and gaining two points for the US. Another USA women's pair tallied points and a men's team put the US total at six points at the conclusion of the first round.
The teams headed into the second day of competition knotted at six points each. In the first round of singles stroke play, the American's dominated, winning six of their first seven matches. From the men, Japan managed only three points out of the possible 16. On the women's side, Youko Yonemura shot a 78, four better than Tucker's 82 to tally the points for Japan. The USA women gained four points as did the Japanese women. At the conclusion of day two, the USA led the competition 23 to 13.
In round three, the USA picked up another 14 points to secure its seventh consecutive victory at the USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship. Tucker defeated Kaori Kawannaka with her final round score of 79. The US leads the series against Japan 19-6.
