Diary of Cyndi Valentin

Indiana freshman guard Cyndi Valentin keeps a diary of what life is like for her both on and off the court in her first year at IU. Valentin is fresh off a stellar career at Bloomington South High School, where she led the Panthers to a number-one ranking in the state her senior year.
An Indiana All-Star in her final season at South, Valentin has been considered among the top players in the state since her sophomore season.
Here is the first installation of the Diary of Cyndi Valentin, beginning with this past weekend.

"I'm just getting back to the dorms after our conditioning and working out. Conditioning was okay today. It was kind of a little rougher today because it's the end of the week and our legs aren't as strong as they can be. It went well though, I think. We started off a little slow, but everyone stood by each other and we had a lot of encouragement and ended up finishing really strong. I thought that went well.
"Instead of lifting today, we played. It wasn't as sharp as it could be, but I think we finished that one strong, too. It was a good day. We were also in the gym before doing sprints and side shuffles and things like that. It went well."
1:30 p.m.
"I'm heading over to Ballantine right now and am going to see my English teacher to go get some help and some of her advice on a paper that I'm doing for her class. Then after that, I am going to my speech class and accounting. My day is going to end at about 5:30."
5:35 p.m.
"I just got finished with my classes, public speaking and accounting. In public speaking, we're doing a research project about a speech and we have to analyze it, so I will be meeting with my team later this weekend. In accounting, we are basically just going over accounting stuff, so that is pretty much my day."

"It's about noon right now and I just got back from basketball. It was mainly just a shooting day today, so we did a lot of shooting and dribbling and things like that. Afterwards, we went to go lift weights."
4:50 p.m.
"I just got back from my classes. Calculus, we have a test coming up on Monday in there, so we just reviewed for it. I went to Spanish, and we're reading a story there, so nothing big. I am about to get ready to go to Coach B's (Associate Head Coach Trish Betthauser) house. She is having a dinner for us because tomorrow we're in the Cancer Walk and we have a recruit in."

"The whole basketball team just did the Hoosiers Outrun Cancer. It was a 5K, which is like 3.1 miles. I ran the whole thing. It wasn't really fast-paced. I ran that and got back to take a nap. I just got back from a scavenger hunt with the recruit. We had two groups to do that and we went through campus taking pictures and finding things. It was pretty fun, actually. My group won...of course. I don't know what else I am going to do tonight, so I guess that's it."

"I really didn't do anything today. I woke up at about 11:30. My mom came by and dropped off some stuff for me like clothes and stuff. I went to the library to go meet with my group from speech class, because we're having a group presentation that we have to do, so we had to meet and get everything ready for that. Now I'm about to go home and see my parents to go chill with them for a little bit and study for my math test and watch a video for Spanish, so that's what I am going to do tonight."
