Bloomington, Ind. - The honors for Indiana quarterback Gibran Hamdan keep rolling in. After being named Big Ten co-Offensive Player of the Week, Hamdan was recognized by three major sports websites for his game against Wisconsin.
ESPN.com in The Power of the Hire by Gene Wojciechowski recognized Hamdan as a runner-up for National Player-of-the-Week honors. Wojciechowski listed Quentin Griffin of Oklahoma as the Player of the Week. Hamdan was one of 11 players listed in the runner-up category.
CBS Sportsline included Hamdan in a fan poll list of six players for At the Half Top Performers. Click here to go vote Hamdan for the CBS Sportsline at the Half Top Performer of week eight.
Fox Sports also recognized Hamdan for his performance against then No. 23 Wisconsin. In Campus Heroes: Beware 'Dawns & Wolf pack by Jim Reineking, Hamdan is a bullet point for the Game Balls section.
Against Wisconsin, Hamdan set career highs for completions, yards and touchdowns. He was 24-36 for 310 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. Hamdan was 11-of-14 in the fourth quarter for 155 yards and two touchdowns. He was only the 12th passer in Hoosier history to eclipse the 300-yard barrier.
Hamdan will led the Hoosiers against their second consecutive ranked opponent in the form of the 16th-ranked Hawkeyes of Iowa on Saturday. Game time is set for 11:10 a.m. CST and the game can be seen on ESPN-Plus.
Dating back to the 1936 season, the Hoosiers have never beaten consecutive ranked opponents. The last time the Hoosiers beat two ranked opponents in one season was 1987. In 1987, IU beat 9th-ranked Ohio State, 31-10, on Oct. 10, beat Minnesota, 18-17 the following week, and then beat 20th-ranked Michigan, 14-0.
