Q&A with Coach Weismiller

Bloomington, IN - For the second time this season the volleyball team will go up against Wisconsin and Northwestern, but this time on the road. The Hoosiers face the Badgers on Friday and the Wildcats on Saturday. Both game times are set for 7:00 p.m.
The first meeting between the Hoosiers and the Wildcats came on October 11, where Northwestern unexpectedly defeated IU, 3-2 (10-30, 30-27, 30-25, 34-36, 15-11).
The Hoosiers took game one, but Northwestern went on to steal games two and three. IU bounced back to win game four, but fell in the deciding match.
Northwestern is currently 13-9 overall, and 6-4 in the Big Ten. In its most recent match, the Wildcats dropped a 3-0 (23-30, 27-30, 21-30) decision at No. 9 Penn State.
On October 12 Indiana defeated Wisconsin, 3-2 (30-26, 26-30, 31-29, 26-30, 15-11). IU led the match two games to one, only to see the Badgers win game four and send the match to the fifth game.
In the final stanza IU trailed only once, which was a 1-0 deficit at the beginning of the game. After IU took a 10-7 lead, Wisconsin closed to within 10-8, but a kill by Nikki Hill proved the Hoosiers with the 15-11 victory.
As of October 26, Wisconsin has an overall record of 15-6, and 6-4 in conference play, good enough for ranking third in the Big Ten. In its most recent competition the Badgers made history with a win at ninth-ranked Penn State on Oct. 26. For the first time ever, the Badgers defeated the Nittany Lions 3-2 (23-30, 32-30, 21-30, 30-28, 15-10).

What is the team focus for the week?
"We are definitely fine-tuning some things. We are working on our offense as well as our defense."
How do you prepare the team for back-to-back Big Ten matches?
"That is all they know. It is fairly simple from the standpoint that we know the competition in the Big Ten is tough. Any team could win in the Big Ten on any given night. As far as preparation, we take one match at a time. We will work on some tendencies that Northwestern has as well, but our focus really will be on Wisconsin. We have to make sure that we have lighter practices on Thursday and Friday. We need to have fresh legs."
What is your approach with Wisconsin since you have already played them once?
"The biggest plus is that we have confidence going into their field house. They are going to have a great crowd, but we can only control what we can and that is from our end of the service line and attack. Approaching Wisconsin, one we have gained confidence and two, we know what they like to do."
What is your approach with Northwestern?
"Northwestern is a huge match for us, they got us in our home court and we would certainly like to return the favor. Northwestern is a good team. We have to figure out how to take them out of their offense, and we need to do a much better job of shutting them down."
About the Players
"Victoria Zimmerman has done an incredible job. Really you can look all the way around. We have our two outsides Nikki (Hill) and Christina (Archibald) certainly carry a huge load for us. But we really look at it as a team effort. But in the last couple of weeks Victoria has gotten better and better. After playing each team in the Big Ten, she now knows what it takes."
