No. 15 Wisconsin Stops Indiana

MADISON, Wisc. - After defeating Wisconsin three weeks ago by a score of 3-2, Indiana fell to No. 15 Badgers, 3-0 (30-21, 30-24, 30-28) on Friday. In doing so the Hoosiers drop to 15-8, 5-6 in the Big Ten, as the Badgers extend their record to 16-6, 7-4 in the conference."I have to give Wisconsin credit for tonight's match," Indiana head coach Katie Weismiller said. "Offensively we struggled. In games one and two our passing and defense struggled. In game three we were back into our offensive run a little, but we just couldn't finish tonight."
Christina Archibald (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) and Melissa Brewer (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington North) led the Hoosiers on the attack with 14 and 10 kills, respectively. Katie Pollom (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) recorded a block assist in tonight's match, moving her into 12th place for single season block assists, joining former Hoosier and current Indiana assistant coach Cydryce Carter with 88.
In game one the Hoosiers took an early 3-0 lead over the Badgers, but it did not take long for Wisconsin to rally three quick points, tying the game at 3-3. IU regained the lead, with a kill by Victoria Zimmerman (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) taking an 11-7 advantage.
After the game was tied at 16, Wisconsin took the lead and never looked back, capturing game one 30-21. Wisconsin out-hit Indiana recording 16 kills to IU's 13.
Much like game one, Indiana took the lead in the beginning of game two. A service by Christina Archibald gave IU the lead, 7-5. The first Badger lead of the night came off a service ace, making the score 10-9. From that point on, the game turned into a back-and-forth battle with both teams trading points. Wisconsin took a 24-23 advantage and led for the remainder of game, posting a final score of 30-24, capturing the first two games of the match.
The beginning of game three turned into another battle with IU taking its first lead off an attacking error, 7-6. Wisconsin quickly tied the game at 8-8. A kill by Nikki Hill, making the score 14-11, gave the Hoosiers momentum on the attack. They continued to generate points and maintain its lead until the Badgers closed the gap and eventually tied the game, 25-25. Wisconsin then took the lead for the first time since its 4-3 lead early in the game. The Badgers rallied two points off an IU attacking error and never allowed the Hoosiers back into the game. Wisconsin capped off the game and the match with a 30-28 victory.
"We need to put this match behind us," Weismiller said. "We need to bounce back and get everybody in the system. We need to be ready to play."
Indiana travels to Northwestern to face the Wildcats tomorrow, Nov. 2. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
