Arsenych and Mroski Sign National Letter-of-Intent

Bloomington, Ind. - Indiana head coach Katie Weismiller has announced that Nastassja "Tasha" Arsenych (Plano, Texas/Plano East/North Dallas Juniors Volleyball Club) and Katy Jo Mroski (Hubbard, OH/Hubbard/Trumball Volleyball Club) have signed letters-of-intent to attend Indiana University beginning in the Fall semester of 2003.Katie Weismiller on Arsenych (Ar-sin-ICH): "Tasha is an extremely smart player and is going to be a great asset to this program. She's well rounded and can come in and immediately give us some ball control as she learns the system as a setter."
A 5-foot-10 setter from Plano, Texas, Arsenych is a senior at Plano East High School and just last evening led her team to its first Region II Class 5A volleyball tournament in school history. A setter and team captain, she has been recognized as her team's Most Valuable Player for three consecutive seasons, while playing under the direction of head coach Marcy Crabtree. A three-time first-team All-District selection, Arsenych helped lead Plano East to a 22-8 overall record and a 10-4 record in District 9-5A play as a junior in 2001. That year, she recorded 581 assists and 62 blocks as a setter/hitter. She also had 119 kills, including 55 in district play on her way to earning district co-setter-of-the-year honors. She was named to multiple all-tournament teams throughout her career. She played club volleyball for the North Dallas Juniors, under the direction of Diane Seymour. A member of the National Honor Society and the TERA Club (environmental club), Arsenych has one sister, Anna, and is the daughter of Donald and Susan Arsenych.
Said Plano East head coach Marcy Crabtree of Arsenych, "She's the best setter I've seen in 16 years of coaching. She really understands the game. She can only get better."
Katie Weismiller on Mroski (Murr-OH-ski): "She is a terminator. Katy Jo is a great athlete who will be a go-to-player for us in the future. Her size and strength should allow her to contribute immediately."
A 6-foot-2 rightside/outside hitter from Hubbard, Ohio, Mroski led Hubbard High School to a 26-1 overall record as a senior, while earning first-team All-Ohio honors, under the direction of head coach Chuck Montgomery. She also earned All-Ohio honors as a sophomore and junior. A three-time District Player-of-the-Year, Mroski holds the Ohio state record for kills in a season (466) and recorded the third-best single-match kill mark with 34 vs. Thomas Worthington (9/15/2001). Following her senior season, she was selected to play at the Ohio All-Star Match, which will be played on Nov. 17, 2002. Mroski was also a member of the Hubbard basketball team and was an All-Ohio selection as a sophomore and junior. She has been recognized as an all-district choice in basketball on three occasions. At the club level, she played for the Trumbull Volleyball Club and for High Performance, an elite team sponsored by USA Volleyball. In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Mroski has been named to the Honor Roll and Who's Who Among American High School Students. She has two sisters, Tracy (30) and Amanda (22), and is the daughter of Bob and Kathy Mroski.
