Soccer Earns 27th NCAA Bid (11-18-02)

Bloomington, Ind. - For the 16th straight year, the Indiana University men's soccer team is one of 48 teams in the NCAA Tournament, the NCAA announced on Monday afternoon. The Hoosiers received a first-round bye and will face the winner of Akron and Notre Dame in second round action on Wednesday, Nov. 27, in Bloomington at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Tickets to Wednesday's game are $5 for adults and $3 for children.
Indiana, the Big Ten Conference regular season champion, made the tournament by way of an at-large bid. The Hoosiers will be appearing in the tournament for the 27th time overall and are in search of their sixth straight trip to the College Cup, an event that every four-year player in the history of Indiana soccer has played in. IU holds an impressive 39-3 record in NCAA competition all time at Armstrong Stadium.
Notre Dame (11-5-3) will host Akron (10-7-2) in the first round game on either Nov. 22 or 23 in South Bend.
If Indiana wins its second round contest, it will move on to play in the third round during the weekend of Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at a site to be determined.
