IU Will Play Notre Dame (11-22-02)

Bloomington, Ind. - The No. 5 Indiana men's soccer team will face No. 21 Notre Dame in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 27., at Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Tickets to the game are $5 for adults and $3 for children and can be purchased at the gate. The Fighting Irish dropped Akron, 3-1, in South Bend Friday night to advance. Indiana was one of 16 of the 48 teams in the field to receive a first-round bye.
Wednesday's contest will mark the second-ever meeting for IU and Notre Dame in NCAA play. The Hoosiers hold the lead in the all-time series, 20-2-1, but the Fighting Irish handed IU its last loss a home, a 1-0 setback on Oct. 17, 2001. Indiana is 9-0-3 at Armstrong Stadium since that time.
Indiana, the Big Ten Conference regular season champion, made the tournament by way of an at-large bid. The Hoosiers will be appearing in the tournament for the 27th time overall and are in search of their sixth straight trip to the College Cup, an event that every four-year player in the history of Indiana soccer has played in. IU holds an impressive 39-3 record in NCAA competition all time at Armstrong Stadium.
Notre Dame, out of the BIG EAST, received an at-large berth as well. The Fighting Irish are 12-5-3 this season and are making their sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
