Hoosiers Complete Day Two of Eck Classic

Bloomington, Ind - The Indiana women's tennis team completed day two of the Eck Classic Saturday, November 9, 2002. In the Blue Flight Singles competition, Indiana's Karie Schlukebir lost to Kristina Stastny of Notre Dame 7-5, 2-6, 1-0(5). This now puts Stastny against Hoosier Sarah Batty who was defeated by Notre Dame's Alicia Salas 6-2, 6-1.
In other consolation matches Missy Wright of Purdue defeated Karie Schlukebir 6-3, 3-6, 1-0(7).
In Gold Flight singles action, Indiana's Martina Grimm was defeated bye Kelly Nelson of Notre Dame 7-5, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. Grimm will now look to play Shervin Saedinia of Syracuse.
In two tough matches, Jessica Groth, lost to Paige Eber of Louisville 6-2, 6-2, and was then defeated by Louisville's Jasmin Singh 6-1, 6-1. After being defeated by Liz Donahue of Notre Dame 6-4, 6-1, she came back to overcome Alexa Konstand 6-1, 2-6, 1-0(5).
In doubles competition Batty and Grimm lost to Katie Cunha and Kristina Stastny of Notre Dame, but then defeated M. Donohue and Kirk of Notre Dame 8-0. They will now face Notre Dame's Lauren Connely and Alicia Salas.
Groth and Rychlike defeated Ackerman and Konstand of Syracuse and will face M. Donahue and Kirk of Notre Dame in Sunday's action.
Final action of the Eck Classic will resume at 9 a.m. Sunday Morning.
