Indiana Women's Water Polo Diary: Saturday and Sunday at the Princeton Invitational

Welcome to the last day of the Princeton Tournament!
After a very long weekend of three games in one day and then one on the last day, we are heading back to good old B-town. Yesterday we got up at 7:30 a.m. to start our long day of games. Our first game we started off strong and beat Brown. It was a close game the whole way through but we pulled through and kept the lead. After a long tiring game we went to a sandwich place called Hoagie Haven. We all just wanted a relaxing lunch but it was far from it. The place was like the Seinfeld episode with the soup nazi. When you went up to order they would yell "next!" and you had to know what you wanted. It was far from relaxing, it was actually pretty stressful.
After lunch we played Villanova and beat the, 13-6. Go Hoosiers!!! We actually never thought our game was going to start because the game before us, Brown vs. Hartwick took about an hour and a half because it went into about five overtimes. That set back the day and all the games to come. Yes, we were supposed to have an 8 p.m. game, but it turned into a 9:30 game instead. We had a pretty big break so what else did we do but go and get more food. We went to a grocery store called Wegmans and got some food for before and after the game. As we were leaving, of course Jeff's van was waiting on the sidewalk for Jeff to come out. We all sat eating wondering what he could be doing for so long. After about 20 minutes Streef decided to go check and see if he was waiting in the van for us. It turned out someone (no names mentioned), forgot to tell us that he was the first one out and meet him in the van. And we would never think he would be the first one out because he is always the last!
We finally made it back to the hotel and waited patiently for our last game of the day. The game was against UMASS and it did not go as well as we would have liked it to go and we lost 10-9. We were all really tired and when we got back to the hotel we just relaxed in our rooms getting ready to play Princeton. As we were all getting ready for bed, there was a loud rucous being made outside. Come to find out, it was a group of basketball boys that were staying on our floor. So of course being curious, we went out into the hallway to see what they were all doing. We were very excited to find out that one of the cute ones was Indiana recruit Daryl Pegram. But the fun ended when good ol' Matt came around telling us not to talk to those boys because of course we all know, "boys have cooties!!" So off to bed we all went to rest up for our big game against Princeton Sunday.
Today we got up at 8 a.m. to eat breakfast and once again headed for the pool for our final game. It was a battle from the very first second of the game, and didn't end until the buzzer. We were down by three after the first half, and felt that everyone on that pool deck was out to get us, but we kept our heads in the game and fought back hard. Within 1:40, our very own freshman, Krista Peterson, scored four goals that got us back into the game. But of course she couldn't have done it without the help and teamwork of everyone who was out there. Yeah, GO TEAM!!! We had a two-point lead in the fourth quarter, but then something happened and Princeton just came back and out of nowhere and got the lead back by one. The game ended 11-10, and once again, we had a disappointing lost that everyone was very upset about. Wer knew though that we fought hard out there and we played a better game than they did. The next time we meet, they're going to be the upset ones.
After the game, we were all finally ready to go home. But before anything, of course we had to stop in South Philly and have some of the world's famous cheese steaks. When we got to "Pat's Kings of Steaks" the line was about a mile long that wrapped all around the place and it was FREEZING COLD!! Barry had to teach us how to order a cheese steak: first name the type of cheese you want, provolone, cheese whiz, American, or plain, and then you say "with or without" which meant if you wanted onions or not. Pat's was every vegetarians' dream, a vegetarian delight you can say.
Once we arrived back at the rental car return, we realized we didn't have one of our robe bags and Louanne left her CD's back at the hotel. We're not very responsible when we're left alone. Anyway, we arrived in Indianapolis for yet another surprise...the Indiana bus was nowhere to be seen.
Somehow we managed to round up nearly $400 between the team and get a ride on the Bloomington Shuttle Service back home. Instead of dropping us off at the scheduled McNutt dorm, our driver was a very nice man and drove up to the soccer stadium so we could get our cars. We are so glad that we didn't have to walk!
Wow! What a weekend! And to think, we're brave enough to write all this down for all of you. You think you know, but you have no idea. This is the diary of the Indiana women's water polo team.
Indiana Women's Water Polo Diary: Friday at the Princeton Invitational

Our day started bright and early as usual with weights, and then
off to the airport we went, heading for Philly. While waiting at the gate, our team exploited our Hoosier hospitality by buying out a little girl's Girl Scout Cookies. It's a good thing that we have such giving coaches to set good examples for all of us. Hahahaa!!!!
After arriving at Philly, the freshmen had already been given a lecture about the responsibilities of taking care of the equipment. Each one was given a duty to carry the ball bag throughout the entire weekend. One specific Aussie was so eager to do her duty correctly, (unlike last weekend in which we lost 3 balls), that she even grabbed suitcases that didn't belong to her, thinking it belonged to one of her teammates. Little did she know, (after an hour long drive to the hotel) that the suitcases DID NOT belong to anyone on our team!!!! Later to find out, that a little poor man named John Q. was waiting at the airport for his missing bags, which also contained his heart medicine!! So Matt and Jeff, took off for the long journey back to the airport to return John Q's bags, meanwhile hoping he won't be hospitalized for a heart attack.

After checking in, we went to satisfy our hunger at a little restaurant named "The Annex." It took many of us a long time to figure out what to order. Geez, we were hungry and everything looked so appetizing. Seeing that our food was coming, we were getting very impatient and anxious to start digging in. As I was sitting there eating my half a jar full of peanut butter and jelly, slapped on two-week old stale bread and Streef was chowing down on lovely spam and pasta topped with ketchup, we still somehow found a good time in all this. Streef later figured out why most of the items on the menu were so cheap, "the food's so cheap here because spam only costs $0.79!" But for the most part, we all walked out of there satisfied and smiling, except for a few of us (one) resorting to a Panera bagel (not naming any names). Well that's all for now, we have a BIG day ahead of us tomorrow. Too bad John Nash (Princeton mathematician and Nobel Prize winner from A Beautiful Mind) isn't here to give us any suggestions for places to eat at and where to go for a good time!! Maybe better luck next time!!!
