Indiana can win its 20th Big Ten crown and its first since 1993 with a victory over Northwestern on Saturday, March 2. The two teams do battle at 2:31 p.m. on ESPN-Plus with Wayne Larrivee and Shon Morris. The game can also be heard live on the IU Radio Network with Don Fischer, Todd Leary and Joe Smith.

The Hoosiers will look for win number 101 all-time against Northwestern. They own a 101-39 record against the Wildcats and have won the last 23 meetings in the series.
In the first 82 matchups between these two schools IU owned a slight 46-36 edge, since then the Hoosiers have gone 54-3.

A Look at IU in the Tiebreaker
If Indiana ties with just Wisconsin
Indiana would be the second seed because Wisconsin owns a 1-0 record against the Hoosiers.
If Indiana ties with Wisconsin and Ohio State
Indiana could be the second or third seed. Wisconsin owns a combined 2-0 record against Indiana and Ohio State so the Badgers would be the number one seed.
Ohio State and Indiana are both 1-2 against the three tied teams so the next tiebreaker is to compare them against what would be the fourth place team. The fourth place team could be Minnesota and Illinois or Minnesota, Illinois and Michigan State if Michigan State were to win its final game. All of those teams would finish 10-6 and be tied for fourth.
If it is a two-way tie with Illinois and Minnesota Indiana would lose the tiebreaker with Ohio State because Ohio State is 0-1 against Minnesota and 1-0 against Illinois for a combined record of 1-1 (.500) while Indiana is 0-1 against Minnesota and 1-1 against Illinois for a combined record of 1-2 (.333). Thus with Ohio State winning the tiebreaker the Buckeyes would be the two seed and Indiana would be the three seed with Wisconsin owning the top seed.
But, if Michigan State wins its last game setting a up three-way tie for fourth place Indiana would earn the second seed and Ohio State the third seed. Indiana is 1-1 against Michigan State thus the Hoosiers combined record against Michigan State, Minnesota and Illinois is 2-3 (.400). Ohio State is 0-2 against Michigan State and has a combined record of 1-3 (.333) against Michigan State, Minnesota and Illinois.
If Indiana ties with Wisconsin and Illinois
Indiana would be the three seed. Wisconsin owns a combined 2-1 (.667) record against Indiana and Illinois. Illinois owns a combined record of 2-2 (.500) against Indiana and Wisconsin. Indiana owns a combined record of 1-3 (.333) against Illinois and Wisconsin. Wisconsin would be the one seed, Illinois would be the two seed and Indiana would be the three seed.
If Indiana ties with Wisconsin, Illinois and Ohio State
Indiana would be the four seed. Wisconsin owns a combined 3-1 (.750) record against Indiana, Illinois and Ohio State. Ohio State owns a combined record of 2-2 (.5000) against Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. Illinois owns a combined record of 2-3 (.400) against Indiana, Ohio State and Wisconsin. Davis A Finalist for Coach of the Year Honor
Indiana Head Coach Mike Davis has been named as a finalist for the Naismith National Coach of the Year honor. He is one of 25 finalists for the prestigious award. Other Big Ten coaches include Bill Self and Jim O'Brien.

Jeffries Still Hurting

Coverdale's Assists May Make History
Tom Coverdale's 4.93 assists per game is tops in the Big Ten. If he holds onto his lead over Michigan State's Marcus Taylor (4.69) he will become the first Hoosier ever to lead the conference in assists.

The Big Ten's Most Valuable Player
Even though Jared Jeffries numbers have not been big recently his ability to play through his pain has shown why he is the Big Ten's Most Valuable Player. Hobbled by an ankle injury, Jeffries was going to rest the second half against the Wolverines but when Michigan cut a 16-point Indiana lead to just nine Jeffries told Coach Davis he wanted to go back into the game. His leadership on the floor helped the Hoosiers regain a 16-point lead before he took a seat back on the bench.
He continued to battle through the ankle injury against Ohio State and drilled a three which gave the Hoosiers the lead for good at 43-41.

Big Ten's Best Defender Showing Offense
Dane Fife, a frontrunner for Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, is averaging nine points per game this year, five points more than his career average heading into this, his senior season. He has hit the 20-point plateau three times and has scored in double digits 13 times this year, thanks in part to his improved three-point shooting.

Odle's Run Has Him Among Big Ten's Best
Jarrad Odle is making the most of his senior year and may have played his way into All-Big Ten contention. He has tallied double digits in six of the team's last seven games, including a career-high 25 points and 11 rebounds against Louisville.
Odle has tallied 234 points this year and entered this season with 228 points in his first three seasons. He has also pulled down 137 rebounds this season and had 169 during his entire three previous seasons.

Hornsby Shots Himself into the Record Books
Kyle Hornsby was a perfect 5-of-5 from three-point range at Michigan tying the school record for three-point accuracy in a game (Keith Smart, 1987). He netted a career-high 17 points and scored 11 straight IU points at one point helping the Hoosiers turn a nine-point lead into an 18-point advantage.
Hornsby, like any long-distance shooter, has been a streak shooter at times this season.
