Hoosiers Host Hawkeyes
Indiana kicks off a three-game (two Big Ten games) homestand when the Hoosiers host Iowa on Tuesday, February 5 at 7:00 p.m.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN and can be heard live throughout the IU Radio Network with Don Fischer, Todd Leary and Joe Smith.
Inside the Series
This is the 150th meeting between Indiana and Iowa with the Hoosiers owning an 87-62 edge in the all-time series. IU owns a 22-5 mark against the Hawkeyes in Assembly Hall and has won the last two games and seven of the last eight on its home court. Each of the last two and three of the last four games at Assembly Hall have been decided by three points

Home Sweet Home for the Hoosiers
Indiana is 6-0 at home this season, including a 4-0 mark in Big Ten play. The Hoosiers are riding an eight-game home win streak dating back to last season. They own an all-time Big Ten mark of 11-1 under Head Coach Mike Davis and have won 20 of their last 22 home conference contests.
Bounce Back Games For IU
Indiana is 5-1 this season in games following a loss. Under Head Coach Mike Davis the Hoosiers own all-time mark of 12-5 in bounce-back games. Indiana has taken advantage of the home court as the Hoosiers have won the last 11 times that they played at Assembly Hall following a road loss. The last time they returned hom after a road defeat and lost in Assembly Hall was back in 1998.

J Expects to Rebound
Sophomore Jared Jeffries, the early frontrunner for Big Ten Player of the Year, was held to seven points at Minnesota. It was just the second time in his career that he was held to under 10 points in conference action. The last time it happened (9 points at Michigan State) he rebounded with 18 points on 8-of-8 shooting against Wisconsin.
Chasing the Buckeyes
Indiana sits in second place, a game behind Ohio State, but the Hoosiers have a more favorable schedule in the final seven games as they play four home games and three road contests. Ohio State has five road games, including four in a row and just two home games in its final seven.
IU leads the conference with three road victories, matching its total from last year. The Hoosiers have won four games away from Assembly Hall just once since the Big Ten went to the 16-game schedule back in 1998. How hard is it to win on the road in the Big Ten? There are five teams with one road victory and four more without a win away from home. Road teams own an overall record of 11-38 in conference play this season.
Jeffries Racking Up Midseason Honors
Jared Jeffries has been listed on nearly every midseason All-America list. CNNSI.com named him to its first-team as did The Sporting News and CBS's Clark Kellog. Dick Vitale named him the top sophomore in the country and selected him on his All-Versatility team. Jeffries was also listed as one of the top 30 candidates for the Wooden Award in its midseason report.
A Big Difference in Assists and Turnovers
A glaring difference between Indiana's wins and losses in Big Ten play is its assist/turnover ratio. In their seven wins the Hoosiers have averaged 17.4 assists just 10.9 turnovers (+6.5). In their two losses the Hoosiers have dished out an average of 13.0 assists and committed 14.0 turnovers (-1.0).
Tom Coverdale has dished out 36 assists and committed just eight turnovers in the seven wins and in the two losses has had just as many turnovers, eight. Kyle Hornsby handed out 27 assists and committed just eight turnovers in the seven wins and has had just three assists and equal amount of turnovers in the two losses.
Different Defenses
The Hoosiers have used defense to win in Big Ten play holding the opposition to .388 from the floor in their seven conference wins. In the thier two Big Ten losses, the Hoosiers have allowed the opposition to connect on .522 from the floor.
Home Court Big Ten Defense
Indiana has held its four Big Ten opponents to .392 from the floor at home and opposing teams are averaging 57 points per game in Assembly Hall. Just once the Hoosiers have allowed over 57 points in Big Ten play at home and that was in an 18-point victory over Michigan State. Michigan State was also the lone team to shoot over .379 from the floor.
Hot Hand at Home in Last Three
In their first home Big Ten game the Hoosiers connected on just 28 percent (14-50) of their shots from the floor (14-50). Since then Indiana has hit 53 percent (87-164) of its shots from the field. The same turnaround holds true with respect to three-point shooting. Indiana was 1-for-14 (.071) from behind the arc against Penn State and since then has connected on 32-of-61 (.525) three-point shots.

Indiana has won its last 26 games dating back to the 1999-2000 season when it scores over 75 points. Over that same time span the Hoosiers are 11-29 when scoring 75 points or less.
Jeffries Means A Lot to These Hoosiers
In Indiana's seven conference victories this season Jared Jeffries has averaged 20.3 points per gameand connected on 56 percent of his shots, including 50 percent from three-point range. In the team's two losses Jeffries has averaged 14.5 points and connected on 36 percent from the floor and 16.7 percent from three-point range.
Overall, in IU's 14 wins Jeffries has averaged 19.9 points and hit for .536 from the floor and .543 from three-point ranges. In the team's seven losses he has averaged 12.1 points and hit .337 from the floor and is just 1-for-13 (.077) from three-point range.

Double Digits By Big Three Spell Victory

Tom Coverdale has positioned himself for All-Big Ten first team honors this season. He ranks in the top ten in more statistical categories than any other guard in the conference. Not only has he been scoring and running the Hoosier offense but he has also shut down some the guards that he will be competing with for All-Big Ten honors.

Big Ten's Best Defender Showing Offense
Dane Fife, a frontrunner for Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, is averaging 9.5 points per game this year, five points more than his career average heading into this, his senior season. He has hit the 20-point plateau three times and has scored in double digits ten times in 2001-2002 thanks in part to his improved three-point shooting.
The Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year candidate, has also held strong on the other end of court. He held Northwestern's Winston Blake to five points on 2-of-9 from the floor and helped hold Iowa's Luke Recker to 12 points on 5-13 from the field.

Odle May Be Big Ten's Most Improved
Last year it was Tom Coverdale who surprised everyone after playing just a total of 41 minutes the previous season. Senior Jarrad Odle is having that same type of career year in his final season with the Hoosiers. Teammate Dane Fife says that he is the catalyst of the team's Big Ten success.
Odle has started in eight of the team's nine Big Ten games after starting just once in his three previous conference seasons. On the season Odle is averaging 7.5 points per game, four points more than his career average heading into this year.

Newton Giving a Consistent Lift
Jeff Newton has been giving the Hoosiers a consistent lift off of the bench in Big Ten play. Four times he has scored 7+ points and four times he has registered 7+ rebounds. He is averaging 6.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.75 blocks in 18.9 minutes per Big Ten game.

A.J. Moye has scored 27 points (5.4 per game) and pulled down 15 rebounds (3 per game) in the Hoosiers last five games. The previous 10 games saw Moye score just 27 points (2.7 per game).
Leach Back into the Rotation
George Leach suffered an ankle injury on the jump ball in the Big Ten opener at Northwestern. He was slowed by the injury and saw action in just nine minutes scoring zero points in the team's first five Big Ten games. In the last four games he is has played 39 minutes and scored 25 points.

Hornsby Getting That Look Back
Kyle Hornsby put up 13 three-point shots in the Hoosiers first two Big Ten games. Since then he has attempted just 17 three-pointers. But, he did put up four long balls at Minnesota.

11-1 When Jeffries Drains a Three
Jared Jeffries has connected on 20 three-pointers this season hitting for .417 from behind the arc. Last year he hit just 12 threes shooting .245 from long range. Five times this year he has connected on 2+ three-pointers and the Hoosiers have won all five games. In fact when Jeffries hits a single three Indiana is 11-1 this season and 17-4 all-time.

Jeffries' Career Projections
Jared Jeffries is on pace to put up career numbers never seen before in Indiana history. He has indicated that he may have one more year with the Hoosiers and has intentions of attempting to graduate in three years before heading to the NBA. But, if Jeffries stays in Bloomington for four years here are the numbers that he is on pace to post.

What the Rankings Tell Us
Last season, Indiana was never ranked in the polls but a high RPI got it a four seed in the NCAA Tournament. This year the Hoosiers have been ranked on and off, but no higher than 20th. The RPI has the Hoosiers ranked 17th as they own the fourth toughest schedule in the country. Collegerpi.com slates Indiana as a number four seed in the NCAA Tournament at this point in the season.
