Hoosiers Make 17th Straight Trip to NCAAs
Indiana makes its 17th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament when the fifth-seeded Hoosiers face 12th-seeded Utah in the first round of the South Regional in Sacramento, California.
The trip to the Big Dance is the Hoosiers 31st overall and their 17th straight. The 31 appearances ranks fourth all-time while the 17 in a row is the second longest active streak.

Third Time as a No. 5 Seed
This is the third time that Indiana has been a No. 5 seed. The last time the Hoosiers were slotted as a fifth seed was in 1994. That year IU defeated No. 12 Ohio (84-72) and then advanced to the Sweet Sixteen by beating No. 4 Temple (67-58). The Hoosiers were eliminated that season by No. 9 Boston College (77-68).
IU was also a No. 5 seed in 1982. The Hoosiers won that season against No. 12 Robert Morris (94-62) before losing to No. 4 UAB.
Looking to Move on in the Tournament
Indiana has lost its first round NCAA Tournament game in each of the last two seasons and in five of it last seven trips to the Big Dance. The last time Indiana won a first round game came in 1999 when the Hoosiers defeated George Washington 108-88. The last time the Hoosiers advanced to the Sweet Sixteen came in 1994, when they were last a No. 5 seed.

What the Rankings Tell Us
Last season, Indiana was never ranked in the polls but a high RPI got it a four seed in the NCAA Tournament. This year the Hoosiers have been ranked on and off, but no higher than 20th. The RPI has had the Hoosiers ranked in the top 20 the entire season as they own the fourth toughest schedule in the country.
