Stanford Tabbed Player-of-the-Week
|
Junior Kristin Stanford set the school record for career goals against No. 6 Loyola Marymount. |
Stanford is the third Hoosier player to receive the award this season. Senior Molly Fonner was a recipient of the honor for the week of February 13th, and freshman Sharna Nelson won the award for the week of February 20th.
The Cincinnati, Ohio native recorded a team high 10 goals on 28 shots in five games over the team's spring break trip (featuring games versus Cal-State Bakersfield, UC-Irvine, LMU, Cal-Baptist and Redlands). She also tallied 10 steals and five assists. During the five game stretch, Stanford held her opponents scoreless in the two-meter.
Against UC-Irvine Stanford scored three goals and tied Indiana’s school record for career goals with 139. One day later she eclipsed that mark with a goal against Loyola Marymount. She now has 144 career goals for the Hoosiers.
Indiana finished the five game trip with a 4-1 mark including wins at Cal State Bakersfield and UC-Irvine. The team won two of its three matches at the Loyola Marymount Invitational with the lone set back coming to the No. 6 ranked host, 6-3.
The Hoosiers will take to the water this weekend when they host the Indiana Invitational at the Counsilman Billingsley Aquatic Center. The Hoosiers will take on No. 15 Princeton tonight at 7:00 p.m. Indiana will then play two matches on Saturday, 9:45 a.m. against the Purdue Boilermakers and 5:00 p.m. against the 13th ranked Michigan Wolverines.
