Two Hoosiers Named All-Conference
Princeton, N.J. - The Indiana women's water polo team was represented by two players, one on the first team and one on the second team of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Conference Team. The all-conference teams were announced at the CWPA Eastern Championship Banquet Friday night.
Indiana's all-time leading goal scorer junior Kristin Stanford headed the list by being selected for the first-team. The Cincinnati, Ohio native set a school record for goals in a season, scoring her 58th of the season against Brown at the Eastern Championships. Along with her 58 goals, Stanford is second on the team in steals with 44 and assists with 26. She was also selected CWPA Player-of-the-Week for the week of March 20.
Freshman Sharna Nelson was the other Hoosier selected to the conference team earning second team recognition. Nelson ranks second on Indiana in goals with 51, which places her in a tie for fourth on the Hoosiers single season goals list. She also had 22 assists and 38 steals on the year. The Grafton, Australia native, like Stanford, was named CWPA Player-of-the-Week award for the week of February 20.
The Hoosiers' all-conference selections will lead the Hoosiers into action tomorrow when they battle Iona at 1:10 p.m. est. A victory over Iona would lead to a match up with No. 1 seed and rival Michigan at 5:50 p.m. est.
