Bloomington, Ind.-The fourth annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge will feature a rematch of the 2002 NCAA Championship Game when Indiana hosts defending national champion Maryland on Dec. 3 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. For the first time in the four-year history of the Challenge, every game will be televised, as the Indiana-Maryland game will be shown at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.Although last year's national championship game featured four players who were eventually selected in the 2002 NBA Draft, this year's Indiana-Maryland game promises to be just as exciting. The Hoosiers (No. 20) and Terrapins (No. 22) are each ranked among ESPN.com's summer Top 50, and IU coach Mike Davis welcomes the return of senior guard Tom Coverdale (All-Big Ten second-team, 11.9 ppg, 178 assists), post players Jeff Newton and George Leach (second and third in the conference in blocked shots, respectively) and guards A.J. Moye and Kyle Hornsby. The Hoosiers' 2002 recruiting class of Roderick Wilmont (G, 6-4, 185, Miramar, Fla.), Bracey Wright (G, 6-3, 185, Woodlands, Texas), Marshall Strickland (G, 6-3, 185, South Carroll, Fla.) and Daryl Pegram (F, 6-9, 193, Los Angeles, Calif.) has also been ranked among the top 20 nationally.
Indiana is looking for its second straight win in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. IU made its Challenge debut with a 79-66 victory at North Carolina on Nov. 28, 2001. Maryland's victory over Indiana in the national championship game marked the first time in five games that the Terrapins had prevailed over the Hoosiers.
