Peterson's Two Goals Helps USA

The Beaverton, Ore., native scored two goals in the match, increasing her goal total to six in three Junior Pan Am games. Peterson was one of 11 different U.S. players to score for Team USA.
The U.S. women steamrolled Mexico with little, if any, trouble. Kelly Rulon and Brittany Hayes each scored two goals to lead the charge after the opening sprint and the U.S. led 7-0 after one quarter. Team USA held an 11-0 lead at the half, and a 15-0 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Mexico did muster some offense in the fourth quarter, getting a pair of goals from Diana Gill and one from Issis Ponce. But the U.S. onslaught was simply too much as Team USA marched away with a 21-3 victory.
Hayes, Rulon, and Scotti Schafer each finished with three goals, while Peterson, Moriah van Norman, Lauren Heineck, and Katie Hansen each had two goals.
Team USA is an undefeated 3-0 in the Junior Pan Am Games, having ousted Canada 8-2 on Monday, and Puerto Rico 19-2 on Tuesday.
Last year, Peterson played in 35 of the 37 Hoosier matches, scoring 50 goals, which was third overall on the team and ninth best in school history. She also recorded 30 assists and 39 steals in her first collegiate season. Peterson's assists total was the sixth highest output in school history.
The Junior Pan Am games are being held on the campus of Florida Atlantic University, which will play its first Division I varsity women's water polo season in the spring of 2004.
The games, which last through Sunday, serve as a qualifier for next year's Junior World Championships.
